Subject: Trojan virus on Rendo pages

This explains the attack on my computer yesterday...apparently Renderosity was hacked;

I spent the better part of last night ensuring I was rid of the bugs.....

Be sure to scan your machines with antiviral software, clean your temp internet files etc....

Yesterday 21st there was a trojan virus on Rendo.

My anti virus software blocked it .

I suggest anyone who has not blocked it and visited Renderosity on the 21st take steps to make sure their PC is free of it.

My AV software also blocked one of the downloads....however another "bug" from this attack managed to cling to my temporary internet files.
It appears the initial trojan attempted to direct your browser to another site where it tried to download another bug onto your computer.  It was the second download that was blocked.

So...to make a long story short...it is best to do a full virus scan to make sure some of the "critters" haven't made their home in your computer.

Well, I have had no problems but also no warning of a blocked virus.  This means a full scan...takes time but is needed. My firewall and antivirus does an excellent job and I expect nothing to be found but will check.

Further to this...when you do a full system scan, Norton suggests you first disable the "system restore" feature in Windows XP.
Windows may have made a backup copy of the virus and stored it in the "restore" file...this file is inaccessible to antivirus software.
Once you have done the scan....make sure you enable "system restore" once again.

Doing any of the above is at your own risk......

Great AV and firewall
My proggie went nuts...

I contacted the lead programmer..

I know they are working on closing any "holes" in the system.

Our VP gave a good explanation of the events..

For those of you just hearing about the issues, last night Bondware became aware of a security compromise to Renderosity and RuntimeDNA. The attack presented itself as a hidden Javascript application embedded at the bottom of certain pages, prompting the user to download and install an application that is actually a Trojan virus. Less than an hour after the attack, Bondware had isolated the affected scripts and started reversing the changes.

We have installed monitoring tools to detect a repeat attempt. We are actively investigating the details of last night's attack and will aggressively address any vulnerabilities discovered.

Please make sure you reject any and all unsolicited download prompts when visiting any website, as these could possibly be a sign of attack. Also, we strongly encourage everyone to always use anti-virus software. This type of trojan has affected some of the largest websites including Wal-mart, Target, etc in recent months, but routine anti-viral software seems to prevent damage to the visitors computer.

** agrose, your symantec anti-virus would have caught and blocked the concern if you had visited during the time of the problem, which started just before 9:30 and were resolved in about an hour.  Some people may have continued to experience an anti-virus block after the fix if their browser had cached the pages that had been compromised.
