Subject: Checkerboard Pattern

I am wondering does anybody here know how to create a checkerboard type pattern for shader... I would like to create a rendering with the floor in checkerboard pattern, similar to the one I saw once in the first or second Harry Potter movie... Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

(I don't want to use image map)
