Subject: Problem with Dynamic cloth simulation

RetroDevil ( ) posted Wed, 08 October 2008 at 2:16 PM · edited Mon, 17 February 2025 at 5:07 AM

Hi, i have been trying to create a dynamic outfit which is basically like a wizards cape..

i have modelled cloth before making a skirt, dress and tshirt and they seemed to work fine but for some reason with this cloak  i click the calculate simulation button  poser says "calculating dynamics" and never starts to actually drape the cloth.

I was just wondering if anybody knows why this might happen, whether its how the mesh was made or whether it may be too heavy in poly count.

I Think the cloak is around 3000pixels ATM

I have the same if use high poly clothes or high poly figure.
Try select collide against only important body parts (deselect eyes, center of mass etc). Sometimes it works. Moreover do not calculate dynamic against hands with fingers. If you wish move clothes with hand use "dummy" transparent box parented to hand.

I'm affraid that best solution is a new computer ;)

hi , thanks for the reply.. ill try that :D

ill also try reducing the poly count if thats the problem

your right though i do need a new computer hehe :)

Try draping the prop over a simple object primitive like a box or sphere. That should tell you if the prop has problems or not.

If dynamic cloth intersects something else in the scene, this can stall the simulation. It can often sort itself out if it intersects the figure, but in my experience if the cloth intersects itself this can kill the whole process. If you've modelled folds into your cloak, or anything else that causes it to pass through itself, that may be causing it. Sometimes the problem area can be very small - it may take some tracking down.
