Subject: Visa Electron debit card

urbanarmitage ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2008 at 8:42 AM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 9:18 AM

Hi guys,

I have made several purchases from the Marketplace over the last few years using my credit cards, but have been considering closing my credit card accounts. I have a Visa Electron debit card and was wondering how I would use it to make purchases.

I went through the checkout process and in step 3 and 4 the marketplace mentions debit cards but the only options I see for payment are credit card and Paypal. The card number on my Visa Electron debit card is very similar to a credit card number, and the card also has a civ number. Will this work if entered in the credit card details section?

If a visa electron card is like one of those pre pay debit cards.. I used one like if for a long time and never had any problems :)

Thanks PandyGirl. My debit card is linked to my current (checking) account and works like any ATM card (at least in my country of South Africa), except for the fact that it is also supposed to work for international debit card transactions. I just don't have a clue how to use it for them!

well I use my debit card here as well and no problems.( but live in the USA ). I think for international you would use it the same way and the bank would deduct the amount based on the current exchange. Hehe as long as it has a visa logo on it.. you can use it as a credit card anywhere :) or atleast that is what they say about visa and mastercard logo'd debit cards.

If the card you are trying to use is attached to your address and bank account, you should be ok just entering it in as a visa card and everything should get processed just fine.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Ok, no go on my Visa Electron card :( I get a 'Verimark 12 - declined' message when I try to use it. May be because I need a pin to use my debit card?

I am sorry you are having so many problems.

You should still be able to use it on our website as a credit card so I am not really sure what the proble is.

Did you check with your bank to see if they can tell you why it's not working?

Thank you!
