I guess it would all depend on the mats used... try changing the mats to between 50 and 100% to make them more detailed, or used textures from a photograph that has been shot close up.
Take a look at one of my closeup scenes, maybe it'll give ayou a few ideas.

Where are you putting your camera and how are you positioning it. I personally use all the views available[from the little arrows left of the display area] when tweaking a camera position and then tweak that with the move icons, also on the left of the display area, to zoom right in.. ...
Once
in a while I look around,
I see
a sound
and
try to write it down
Sometimes
they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again
Interesting..
I messed around with the camera, moving it around, zooming in, etc.,
but it didn't seem to make much difference. I'll have to experiment
a lot more with that, and with the textures and materials as well.
Thanks for the tips, I'm sure its the user and not the program cuz
I've seen some great close up scenes by other brycers so I
know it is possible to do. I haven't played much with this app,
but am really impressed with the results of some of the renders
I've seen.

well for a closeup yo will need to increase your attention to detail. also you will need something to put the size of things into perspective.
DOF could also help, like with a real camera lens if you make a macro photo the background will be blurred.

'course I didn't have too far to go in the first place... lol
Can any of you more seasoned bryce 6 users give me
some tips on how to do a close up scene in this
strange beastie of a program? please?
Long shots ain't too difficult, actually have gotten some
pretty great results with this, but I want to do something like
a close up scene near the water's edge of a small pond...
something along those lines. No matter what I do with
this darn program it ends up a distance view... grrrrrrrrr
I tried changing the camera settings to no avail..
It still looks like its viewed from a helicopter at
about 1000 feet up.. lol
Any help would be a life-saver.
