Subject: node questions

can i use this pic and make a pattern out of it, or any other pic i import in poser?

and my second question is can we rotate the texture?

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2008 at 9:29 AM

Was there a link for the pic?

To rotate an image map, select VU mapping instead of UV on the image map node.

To rotate a procedural texture, see nruddock's post in this linked thread.

And to make a repeating pattern, just change the U_Scale and V_Scale on the image map node. It will tile the image.

Use values that are the inverse of how many times you want it to tile. Use a math node to calculate the factor. See the linked post.

is this how you made your loom material with custom pattern?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2008 at 12:33 PM

Yes. The weave pattern is an image (which I decode with nodes to calculate which threads go over/under other threads.) By scaling and tiling this image, I can scale the pattern up or down easily.

thanks.
really helped me.
it is better to make the tiling in poser then to make the whole body texture in photoshop right?

i tryed this now. and WOOOw. this works incredible.

do you have any other trick for texturing? this divide function is really amazing.

are people even reading this? incredible.

you need to writte a poser book :)

You mean specifically doing 2D geometrical operations with image maps in nodes? Sure. Tons. What do you want to know about?

Tile with mirroring.
Rotate an image to any angle.
Non-linear scaling/stretching.
Make a kaleidoscope from any image.
Turn a linear gradient into a circular gradient.
Perform mapping conversions - for example equirectangular to angular map. (For panorama to IBL format.)
Blur.

you explained blur in the VSS thread right?

-what is non-linear scaling?
-rotating an image to any angle: is this where you have to use more then 20 nodes?

Here is an example of non-linear scaling (and tiling at the same time).

I didn't discuss blurring in VSS, I don't think. The blur thread is here.

How to rotate to any angle. (18 nodes, not 20 hehehe)

(See it's not just me who comes up with this stuff.)
