Subject: OT: Has anyone heard of the Dictionary of Modern Art

Has anyone heard of the "2009 INTERNATIONAL ENCYCLOPAEDIC DICTIONARY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART". Sorry for the all-caps, but this is how they referred to themselves in an e-mail I received. 😉

It's a hardbound book, created in Italy and they describe it as: "The volume will include numerous painters, sculptors, graphic artist, designers, photographers and other artists fron various countries, with their addresses, phone numbers, biographical notes, reviews, prices, e-mail, personal web adresses, color and black and white illustrations. Names that are famous and names that are unknow, along with the best know historical names worldwide."
"It will be... distributed at the end of January 2009 to gallery owners, dealers, architects, art critics, collectors, museum directors, as well as public and private organizations. And of course it will be visible to the whole world through the INTERNET."

My question is this: does anyone know anything about this publication? The e-mail I received said I could get a free 1/2 page listing as long as I purchased the book... at 90 Euro/ $120 (black and white copy) or 110 Euros/ $165 (color copy). But is it a real offer: will the book really be distributed to all these places? And will it be printed in Italian or choppy English, like their e-mail?

Or is this like the old "Who's Who" book, where they make it seem like it's a special offer to have your name included in the book, when in reality, they print the information of everyone who replies to the offer.
Or is it actually a good deal: $165 seems like a bargain if this book is really distributed to all these places and read by all these people.

Thanks for the links.
Of course Google is my friend, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences with these people, beyond what could be found in a Google search. 😉

My own experience is thus: If someone wants money from you to include you in XYZ publication--it's a scam. If they want to PAY YOU to include you in a publication--it's legit enough.
