THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: new image

I've posted a new image but in a genre I don't usually use.
Please take a look and let me know what you think. It can be seen in my gallery at

www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1780549

Full size is recommended and thanks for looking.

Very nice scene. You should now be inspired to build some more scenes like this using Bryce terrains and primitives. It's a lot more work, but you will enjoy it I promise.

I agree with dhama by and large...viewing the credits this might well have been posted in the DAZ area as the only Bryce really is the sky and render...don't get me wrong it's a very good render and KUDOs to Bryce on that, but it is largely DAZ. ...

Good scene and setup. My only critiques would be that the chipmunk is too large in relationship to the cat (I've had both as pets), and the sky seems a bit too dark for a morning scene with that much brightness. That said, I realise that sometimes you have to "cheat" with the scale of some elements in a scene, especially small animals, so they will show up in a render. Just my $.02.

rstar ( ) posted Thu, 13 November 2008 at 4:31 PM

Bobby, you're right, it is all Daz except for the sky and rendering. In fairness, it technically should be a DAZ image but I love Bryce so much that I prefer using Bryce even if I have to import  what I need to do a picture.
I never considered posting on the DAZ or Poser galleries because I never use the DAZ  or Poser programs at all except for the bridge to get the content into Bryce to work with - isn't that what DAZ is promoting the inter-connectivity for?.

Bryce is my home and comfort zone so here is where I post.

The emphasized text in the quote is what worries me as newer users will just almost automatically use mostly DAZ, and Bryce as the superior render engine it is...diluting the Bryce content...I think this is what ICM is on about re: postwork as well. There are plenty of places to post DAZ/Poser stuff but this is the premiere Bryce forum around and I'd really like top see us aiming for a bit more as the Cardinal would say, purity...just my 2 cents as a Bryce lover since waaaay back.. ...

Bobby

Thanks for the encouragement(?) and once again resurfacing the Bryce "purity" argument to post on this forum!

Even though Bryce is under the same umbrella as DAZ and the line between the two programs is being blurred more with every iteration, I thought it was supposed to be about the resulting artwork and not the origin of the contents included in it as long as credit was given! However, purity point made!!

Since I can't model in Bryce and sometimes I have to utilize the talents of others who use blasphemous software in my images, maybe it's best that I take your advice and post any images I make using Bryce only for a renderer elsewhere from now on,

Purists are an elite group. I don't see whats so bad about your posting in Byrce. If the Bryce gallery only contained pure Bryce then it would be very sparce. Keep up the good work, it was an excellent image. If they ever really care about purism they will create a second bryce gallery just for pure images. Till then, keep on posting I say.
Just a non-purists 2 cents. (I'd have to move my few Bryce images out of the gallery if purism is what is expected there).

"...it is all Daz except for the sky and rendering." quote from rstar.

I think this says it all.

Funny thing is, it shows that Bryce is the shining star of apps in reality..... You never quite see Bryce content exported and imported into Poser/Vue/DazStudio....Terragen..... it's alway Bryce being the 'end' product. Think that says a lot for Bryce, and why people like to be associated with it.

This could have a lot to do with the Bryce format only being readable by Bryce and exports only come with 6.x which I have yet to acquire...sigh. If I had 6.x you can be sure I'd do a whack of boolean modeling which I could then convert to polys and export to use in say Imagine3D my main/first app, or even Terragen, which with TG2TP allows importing .obj and .lwo which has a render engine equal to Bryce's IMHO, and the most superior water in 3D period...sorry for ranting...Rant Off

Best of luck mate, I have 6, but have had little success successfully exporting anything but a terrain.

Now that is discouraging...well it'll stay on my wish list in any case as there is so much more than that I understand from what I've read here...quite a bit of improments.. ...

Well I think it's a problem too but the main problem here is that my models are quite complex, and so I forget to make some parts pos/neg. Only parts which are pos/neg actually get converted.
Another problem is the mess it makes of exported objects which almost make it impossible to edit in other 3D apps.....

Hopefull 6.5 might make thing a little easier...if it comes at all.

This topic can easily spin off to another thread or two.  Can someone explain to me, why is it so sinfull to purchase Bryce , than Purchase Content which are all DAZ Products and produce an image with them?  Wouldnt the $$$ go towards helping DAZ Continue to update said software?

Reading this thread, I'm getting the sense that using DAZ content is a bad thing.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 8:13 AM · edited Sat, 15 November 2008 at 8:14 AM

I don't want to beat a dead horse. But I really need to get a few more things off my chest about the beginning of this thread. One I don't like a Bryce user being chastised for using imports and posting in the Bryce gallery. There are some other members here who do wonderful scenes using imports and I've yet to hear them chastised, nor would I want to.
I've just been to the Daz gallery and MYGOSH would Rstars image look out of place there! After page after page I finally found a thumbnail that looked like a still life but sadly when I opened it, it was like all the others. I'm not saying an image like Rstars shouldn't be posted there, but IMO it better suits the Bryce gallery when it comes to looks.
I just wish that we can all lighten up (me included because this upsets me) and not try to separate ourselves into different races of bryce users. We should encourage whatever traits, be it builder or stager, that our fellow Brycers possess.
Peace

Ang...I am definately not anti DAZ.....all I'm trying to ensure with my comments about 90% DAZ 10% Bryce scenes, is that folks don't forget all that Bryce itself can do without any imports. At the rate it's going since DAZ took it over, a lot all the new content I see being rendered in Bryce is DAZ content with very little Bryce in evidence.
Let me state here, I'm grateful DAZ actually took Bryce under it's wing and got 6.x out, and I have no complaints about DAZ content  being rendered in Bryce as it looks way better, but I stil like to see Bryce techniques like dhama's current series being developed and that painting recreation a while back blew my mind...now that's Bryce work IMHO and stellar work...I guess I just want to see more to inspire me to do more than buy scenes from DAZ and load them into Bryce to render...the DAZ elements are all a good thing but when there's no actual Bryce work in evidence is when I start to worry for Bryce....Peace from me as well.. ...
