Subject: Subsurface Scattering Wacro?

In the Poser 7 reference manual it states...
Add Subsurface Scattering: Clicking the Add Subsurface Scattering Wacro button
will configure all the lights in the scene to produce SubSurface Scattering effects.
After you click the Add Subsurface Scattering button, you will see a dialog that
states “The light(s): were set to produce Depth Map
shadows.” Please note that for subsurface scattering all active lights will be set to
produce depth map shadows. When you click OK on this dialog, Poser attaches the
following nodes:

  •   A Blinn specular node will be attached to the input of the Alternate_Specular attribute on the root Material node. See “Blinn” on page 320 for more information
    on the Blinn node’s attributes.
  • A FastScatter node will be attached to the input of the Alternate_Diffuse attribute on the root Material node. See “FastScatter” on page 326 for more information on the FastScatter node’s attributes.
  • An Edge_Blend node will be attached to the input on the FastScatter node. See “Edge Blend” on page 315 for more information on the Edge_Blend node’s
    attributes.
  • Additionally, the output on the Image_Map node (which existed before you clicked the Add Subsurface Scattering button) will be connected to the input on
the Inner_Color attribute of the Edge_Blend node.
When I run the Wacro it doesn't work, it says "Wacro execution failed". I guess because there is no Alternate_Specular & Alternate_Diffuse on lights.

No light I add has any alternate fields, so how do you get this wacro to work?

You run it on prop and figure materials, not on lights.

Materials scatter light - light doesn't scatter itself so it's not something you set on the light.

Having said that, I say it's useless.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

😕 LOL well I guess it would have been helpful if the manual mentioned that little fact rather than just launching into....

Quote - Clicking the Add Subsurface Scattering Wacro button

  • giving the impression you were doing something to lights rather than surface materials.

Thanks
