Subject: Library adjustments

Hi,

Using Poser 6 on Mac OS X 10.4.9. here...

I would like to change and rename my library 's so that when i select a "Figure" folder (that would have number 001 for instance) i have that same number in the corresponding "Pose" folder.

So for example : i would like to rename "A3_Lemonade" to "001 A3_Lemonade" in the "Figure folder" and in the "Pose folder" i would like to rename "!MAT_A3-Lemonade" in to **"001 !MAT_A3-Lemonade"

**I would like to do this for the entire Figure, Pose and Props folders so that when i load in a figure, i can look up the materials etc... by number instead of endlessly scrolling and searching trough the folders.

Will this cause any known problems somehow in Poser ?

Thanks
Wim

The only problem I would anticipate with this renaming is severing the internal reference links of the file scripts.  You will generate errors and may need to find referenced content manually.  I don't think it would be worth the attempt.

I think most vendors are fairly good about putting the referenced files (textures, geometry, scripts, etc) in folders not within the Library folders, so it's normally okay to do this.

I have organised my Runtimes along these lines without any problems, except for a very few things where the vendor (or provider of freebies - can't complain about that) put the geometry file right in the Figures (Characters) folder. With these I just moved them out to new folders and edited the references.

Maybe the safest way would be to try a few folders and then see what happens.

It shouldn't. As long as you don't touch the geometry and texture folders, everything sold at one of the major vendors in the past two or three years should be OK. (Some of the freebies may have problems, as will some of the stuff designed for P4.) Figures and props files refer to geometries and textures, and poses refer to textures. Neither refers to each other. I think that I've renamed about 95% of my library folders for the same reason you have -- to make things easier to find.

I don't think it's available for the Mac, but PC users have CorrectReference (or CRPro).  Using it, you can even take care of the geometry, texture, and injection references.

Standard procedure for everything I have:

  1. Unzip/install into an empty folder
  2. Rearrange/rename as I want it to be organized
  3. Run CRPro to fix all the references
  4. Move everything to its permanent folder

That aside, just moving/renaming the figure and pose files is mostly okay, but you have to watch out for two things: external binary morph files (pmd) and injection poses.  Sometimes content makers are very haphazard about how they reference them and where they are.
