another question from a newbie ;-)

When I want to import a poser file into a vue landscape it asks me for a certain "curious lab's poser"

Where can I get this software? And then, how can I import the desired files?

it also comes with a LARGE volume of free content. and there is even more free content available as well, but most of the best stuff must be purchased in addition, much like some of the content at cornucopia for vue.

They are referring to the program called "poser", which is now owned by Smith-Micro.  The latest incarnation is Poser Pro, but i personally know that Vue operates with Poser 6 & 7 as well, so usually its more a question of finances & what you need out of poser as to how much you spend.

once you have the software you need, install it and make sure its patched/updated.  Make sure Vue has all its updates as well.

Go into vue .... File-----Options----- General Preferences tab.  In the middle (of mine, i have pro studio) it has a cute little button called "configure Poser import" - click this and follow instructions.

Once you have Vue set up to find your runtime & geometry files (thats what that button does), you're all set to import.  Click file --- Import File --- and then browse to your scene file and open it up. 

New window pops up.
i like to center my object (so i can find it in a "busy" scene), and i turn off resizing.
hit "ok"

wait...
wait....
wait,.......
wait some more.

and another window pops up called "poser import options"
this is where the nifty stuff happens when you import.  You have some good options here, but generally what I have checked (unless importing an animation, its a different ballgame there) is "group figures as single meshes" and "import single frame from Poser animation" (for still images, you don't need Vue to think about 30 frames of exactly the same thing).  This is where you have the option of re-posing in vue as well as using poser shader tree.  Please note that these two options, alone or together, has brought MANY a computer system to its proverbial knees.  I.E.  it can't handle it.  not options i recommend, even for those with 8 gigs of memory ;)  Even the "import entire animation" requires vue to "talk" with poser... or at least pretend it's poser.

once you have everything you want, click ok... and wait some more.  after a bit of time (depending on your computer & what you are importing), something should show up.  The first thing to do is "PURGE MEMORY"!!!!

after that, its up to you... but i have a tendancy to turn my poser imports into Vue objects so its less of a drain on Vue & my machine.
