Subject: simple text question

santicor ( ) posted Wed, 17 December 2008 at 6:37 AM · edited Wed, 22 January 2025 at 4:13 PM

HI
suddenly when i  open text boxes and type in them , the text does not show up in my image -
although, in the layers window  I see everything looks lke the text layer should be showing up.
i.e. all visibility settings  check out ok, It is visible, layer is on top, there is no transparency, i can  see the letters i have typed  in the thumbnail for the text layer,  etc.

is there some general setting for "hide text" or something that I never knew about?
this all happened suddenly for seemingly no reason - ( yes, the text color IS  in contrast to the layers underneath!)

Thanks
( my first visit to the PS forum  ;-)  )

Are you typing in the background colour. Un-rasterised text will show up in the layers but not in the document if you've done that...s'all I can think of...and that I've in fact done on occasion....LOL.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

Thanks -
yes I am using a color completely different than background layer.

I have to go mess around some more.

Have you made sure your font is in a size small enough? If it's too big, and the text box is too small, you won't see the text show up. Same goes for line height.

You can also Highlight the the text in the textbox by dragging your cursor over it while holding the left mouse button. If it highlights then it is there. If it will not highlight then you have another problem and it may be as 'aprilgem' said. Try to apply a style to it and check if it is there also!!!

Try and use the transform tool (deselect the text tool, i usually click the arrow) and hit the "ctrl+t" (win) or the cmd+t (mac) keys and see where the bounding box shows up... if it's real small, grab a corner box and "shift+drag" it larger. if there really isn't a "text box" you should get an error message say something about the bounding area is empty...

hope it helps
