You can download some free ones here and dissect them, or you can play with bump,specular, reflection/refraction and transparency  till you get the one you want(;

There is an ice material in the SSS section of Vue 6+ but its really terrible.

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science...

I made some last month...  Not perfect, but suitable for my needs.  Maybe they are usefull or a good startpoint.
I see if i can upload them.

Try this:
Create a normal size sphere, apply the standard water material to it and then go to the translucency tab and tick translucency. Change the depth in this tab to 10 meters. Do a test render and you'll see a fairly nice (but not perfect) sphere of ice. This is a good starting point. Experiment several things until you're satisfied. For example, if you move the backward/forward slider a bit to the left (try -0.5) it'll be a bit better, IMO.

Hint: the light angle is also important to get a good result.

Simple ice, Vue6 .

Try different lighting  to improve the looks.

Edit: I tried to attach the file that doens't work..  Send me a mail and i will mail it to you if you like. I have a simple one and a SSS one.

Cherryman,
I've seen people attach files by changing the extension to .txt . The person that downloads it can change it back to mat or vob or whatever it's supposed to be.

You could just try changing the refraction index of ordinary water mats.  I find it works quite well

"New accurate values of the imaginary part of the refractive index k of polycrystalline ice at T = -22 deg C are reported. The k spectrum in the 1.43-2.89- mu m'
