Subject: Worst Poser animation ever

kedo1981 ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2009 at 12:32 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 11:41 PM

I usually feel like a lame animator when I see some of the work of other  folks here and across the interwebs, but after seeing what was on ABC news the other night I don’t feel so bad.

They were doing a story about  products that where still selling well in the tough economy.

They used a poser 4 animation of Posette pushing a shopping cart in front of some store  displays. We are talking a basic stock Posette with stock cloths and hair, “pushing” a shopping cart, rather not pushing the cart, no walk cycle or nothing.

This is national tv for creeps sake.

No, but at least they could've gotten a 1st year intern from their parent company :-)

ABC is also one of the worst networks ever.  try this test: go to a legit news station, e.g. BBC
or CNN, and set volume at comfortable level.  then switch channel to ABC and notice how the
volume has doubled.  this is because ABC is pitching to the bottom of the demographic.

They probably gave an intern a half hour to come up with "something".

Did you see some of the animations on the news of the plane that crashed into the river?  They were pretty bad.  The plane looked like a silver tune with two flat silver rectangles as wings.

Miss Nancy, I'm curious. What would volume level have to do with ABC 'pitching to the bottom of the demographic'?

I don't know anything about volume level being an indication of which group(s) a network is gearing its station towards; but you reminded me of a personal preference: I view movie-only, commercial-free cable stations because I canNOT tolerate the screaming volume of some of the commercials one sees on 'free' t.v. channels :p

Just for your info.

All television has a maximum setting for volume on broadcats, measured in decibels.

So no channel is really louder than another, and adverts are not louder than the programs. To get them to sound louder, the people doing the sound filter out certain frequencies, and boost others, mainly the mid range, which makes it sound louder, but in effect it is the same volume as everything else.

In pop music this is done as well, so a song featuring a guy on acoustic guitar singing will actually have a much broader dynamic range than a dance song with 50 instruments, because in a dance song you will filter out a lot of frequencies to make the song sound more energetic.

I never worry about volume unless someone else is watching with sound on (I hate that). Most sound from radio and TV is noise and static to me because of my hearing problems. I use closed captioning. But to get back to animations...I made a pretty bad one while trying to follow the tuts. Poor V4 had her leg broken and twisting like crazy. LOL.
