Subject: Looking for Realistic Octopus Texture

shante ( ) posted Tue, 10 February 2009 at 2:10 AM · edited Fri, 25 October 2024 at 3:43 AM

A long time ago some0ne created and posted a really nice realistic DAZ Octopus texture. I have been trying to find it in my huge CD collection but of course am having trouble doing so. Does anyone here remember it and know where it is or was posted or who created it?
It wasn't at DAZ that I do remember.

TrekkieGrrrl: whatever3d.com is a great way to search for Poser content although, at times, it gets a little quarky.  It helps with content that is no longer available; you will be amazed what Rendo still has in it's DB that is no longer available.

It's weird that way.  Like the poster above said, it's great for finding some things that naturally don't make it into the mainstream.  But, it's not a comprehensive search.  It also disperses freebies sort of randomly in the pages.  So, you can't search for a freebie but, they'll be put here and there throughout the search results if there are enough pages of results.

No Luck. It seems that if the content is NO LONGER AVAILABLE then there is no point in posting it or tracking it down only to find you can't get it!?  :(

If you can find a link you can try it at the Web Archive...

www.archive.org

Keep in mind that Web Archive sometimes sticks a few extra bits on zip files-if your archive program won't open it, use the command-line version of zip ( http://www.info-zip.org  ) and run 'zip -FF filename' from a command prompt to repair it.

Cheers,

Rod

Hi Rod

I am not sure I understand...find a link for what? You mean discontinued items links at Renderosity or other commercial sites?
Also, I am on a Mac so some applets and utilities don't work for me on that platform.

Hi Shante

I was talking about freebie links; for instance, many of Trekkie Girl's Freebie Links have died over time:

http://trekkiegrrrl.dk/links.htm

Often the site has been preserved in the Internet archive, so if you have a link to the freebie, you can get files from a defunct site if the file has been archived. Some site owners have set their sites up so they were't archived, and it's  a hit or miss thing anyway. For instance, most of Have's stuff is there, bit almost none of T-limited's items are in the archive.

There is a MAC GUI version of Zip available at the link above-never used it, so I don't know the commands, although the command I gave should work on OSX  if you open a terminal window, as underneath it's UNIX...

Cheers,

Rod

I went there yesterday and tried to figure out how it worked but being a bit dense in that sort of thing I couldn't.
How do you track say HAVE's stuff on this site you described?

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 11 February 2009 at 11:28 AM · edited Wed, 11 February 2009 at 11:29 AM

Shante

You would put the site address (from TG's list, for instance) in the Wayback Machine box and press 'Take Me Back.'  It will give you a list of dates the page was archived, and you poke around until you find what you need.

BTW, Have's site isn't actually defunct, but many of his old freebies can be found in the Archive.  T-limited's old site is there, but must of the downloads aren't.

Cheers,

Rod
