first, dpi should only be used in talking about printing resolution. monitor resolution is measured in ppi. dpi means: dots per inch ( used for only ink jet printers ). ppi means: pixels per inch. dpi measures 1/300th of a pixel, so lets say you wanted to print an image at 720x720 dpi on a epson printer. your image should be at 238 ppi. if you use an image at 300 ppi your sending the printer to much information that it cant use. NOTE: this is response to a question below that really didn't answer the persons intended question.
