Subject: Carrara and objects

I'm still very new to Carrara so this may be a fairly simple question.  I started out by learning to set up and light interior scenes which as it turns out is one of the simplest things to do in Carrara since it handles DAZ people and objects, in most cases,  without problem and even does an admirable job on posing them.

Last night I decided that it was time to try my hand at building an out doors scene.  I started with a preset then modified the shading of the terrain to what I wanted without problem.  Then I tried to add a tree.  I dragged and dropped the tree from the objects menu and it shows up in the objects list for the scene but I can't find it.  I panned in a loooong ways panned out a loooong ways and same for up and down.  Never could find the tree.
If I start by putting the tree in first the tree ends up being H U G E and when I drag and drop the terrain it's so small it isn't visible.
Is there some way to get Carrara making items that are an appropriate size?
Also is there a way to get Carrara to centre all objects added to a scene?
I have had a similar problem with indoor scenes.  I had to start with a figure rather than a setting or lose the figure when I drag and drop it into the scene.

Carrara put those things in the appropriated size... the problem here is that when you add a tree using the Insert menu, the tree will be puted in the middle of the scene.

First, try to start with a MEDIUM scene (when ou hit new document), this way will be more easy to see the objects.

Add your terrain and shade it. Now time to add a tree: use the insert menu, and your tree (plant) will be in the middle of the scene, sometimes under the terrain, so you will need to move it to a better place.

But here the secret is to use the Medium preset scene, if you use Large, your tree will be very small and hard to move around.

This drove me nuts at first too.  GKD is right, the object is the right size, your scene is just far larger than you think it is.  Look at the parameters (usually the scene is something like 100000 x 100000).

Note that you can highlight an object in the menu, then hit the number zero to move your camera to the object.  You can also change navigation between large, medium and small by highlighting Scene in the menu then use the second tab above to change scene parameters.  Finally, on the edit drop down menu there is a selection for "move object to origin", just be sure you have the object you want to move highlighted when you select this.

good luck

Scene size isn't in 5.1 is it? (I'm noticing that it's not exactly reasonable when using ft as the units in prefs. Having to move back and change the grid and all.) Or if it is, where is it hidden?

Yeah, I'm cheap for not upgrading. (But when income is sporadic and small, other things come before software.)

Thanks for the tip. 👍 I'd have to see if the local bookstore even carries that, because I don't remember seeing it before. Last time around there was a similar deal with 3D World Magazine for Carrara 5.1 Pro. Which makes me wonder, is Carrara 8 just around the corner already?

I dont think so... Carrara 7.1.1 was release a few days ago... I think we only will see version 8 in the end of the year or next year.
