Subject: Unlock Poser 5

bjt860 ( ) posted Thu, 12 March 2009 at 11:00 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 3:25 PM

I am having to reinstall poser  5.  But, I'm wondering how do I get an unlock code for it now?  Or am I screwed since Curious Labs is long gone?

Due to finances I can't afford to buy the newest version of poser, so I am stuck with poser 5.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your only legitimate recourse is to contact Smith Micro.

Go to Smith Micro and get the SR1.  That will automatically unlock your P5.

If you have not already uninstalled it, your serial number is on the Help > About screen.

To bypass the unlock code you need to apply the SR1 patch straight over (and before running) a new install of Poser 5.

it was 8 or 9 yrs ago, but didn't CL have the challenge/response deal?  I can't recall.
but in the case of OS X, daZ studio (free) would be alot better than Poser 5 IMVHO.
maybe they didn't make any misteaks when writing the Xp version of poser 5. 🤣

p.s. in case anybody asks, it's been approx. 2.3 yrs since they released poser 7.

Thanks everybody.

PhilC:  I think  the formatting job my cousin's kid on my computer took care of the uninstall.  I'm never letting that kid play on my computer again.

Miss Nancy:  I do believe you're right about the challenge/response deal.  I've been thinking about daz studio. Maybe this is a good time to get it.

Well, I'm off to Smith-Micro.

P5 did have the challenge thing, but installing SR1 before opening P5 for the first time removed the challenge/response 'feature'.

Smith Micro now suggest loading SP4 , the last update issued for Poser 5 . I had this problem last week after a system reload.

Well, I guess I'm downloading SP4 then.
Thanks.

I had the same problem about 2 years ago when I was rebuilding my computer and applying the SR1 patch directly to my new install of P5 resolved the issue and removed the Challenge/Response procedure.  I don't think I've ever applied any other SR for P5 since the only thing I use it for is testing.

It may be currently possible to get a more recent version at a favourable price...

CP has P6 on sale for $29.99

and P7 download for $99.99
http://www.contentparadise.com/us/user/poser_7_english_full_version_product_25804

That's a great price for P6 and not bad for P7.

Installing the SP4 did the trick.
Maybe I can get a P7 when I get a job.
Thanks again everybody.
