Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 03 1:41 pm)
Personally I would not create Carrara shaders for my Poser stuff. I already need to uv map and do image based textures for stuff so it works in Daz Studio. The same image maps should work in Carrara or anything else. I have Carrara 5 pro and unless 7 is a big step up, would not really regard it as a modeller , but more like Bryce or Vue , a landscape creator.
You should be ok even if you dont like it if Daz 30 day return policy covers it , or maybe they will release a trial version.
Supposedly, it is a pretty big step up in terms of modelling capabilities. I think the 3D paint makes it obvious they're trying to accomplish some more advanced things in that general field.
The thing with DS and Carrara: Carrara uses more advanced shaders, so it's not simply a matter of getting it right for the former. But you make a good point: getting content to be set up for the DS shaders would be much more important, as I'm sure there will be always be far more DS users than Carrara users, it being a free program and all.
Hm.

I think its a matter of time till people add shaders for Carrara in your packs. Was the same thing when Daz started Daz Studio.
I develop content for Carrara and would be glade to work with others creators to port shaders for Carrara...

I actually do model some stuff for poser in Carrara, as well as Silo, each has it's plus' and minus'. Haven;t started adding Carrara shaders yet (but then again I've only Started to learn what;s needed in D/S. I agree with GKD tho, it;'s only a matter of time before you;ll start seeing Carrara specific "Poser" type content. It has a nice render that beats Poser AND D/S in some aspects and the terran and modeling features will make it attractive.

This doesn't really fit into the Character Creators forum, and I thought it would generate me a bunch of obvious Carrara people in the Carrara forum, so I'm asking this here....
Carrara 7 has apparently had a great leap forward in terms of Poser content import etc. Those of you who are creating Poser content, especially characters - are you tending to move toward adding Carrara shaders to your products in addtion to Poser ones?
I've got an opportunity to pick up Carrara 7 Pro for about $150, and I'm trying to determine whether it's a worthwhile investment. If I learned it, I could offer content tailored for it.
Of course, it also has a lot of other nice tools, including 3D painting now... though of course I've never used it and can't say how good it is for that. In some ways, it sounds like it's a low-priced cross between Vue and Max or something.
Thoughts?
