Subject: Poser 5 to Poser 6

Daidalos ( ) posted Mon, 16 March 2009 at 10:46 AM · edited Tue, 30 July 2024 at 11:06 PM

Ok my fellow poserites, so I've finally broken down, and bought Poser 6.

Do I need to completely uninstall Poser 5 before installing Poser 6? Or will the installation of Poser 6 just overwrite my Poser 5 installation? And, most importantly is there a way to save and re-import my current runtime? I hope so as I am soooo not looking forward to re-installing everything ala carte figure by figure and prop by prop etc.... (It takes me weeks to do that).

Thanks for any advice you guys might have as to how I should proceed with my upgrade.

D.

It will install Poser 6 to a separate directory, so you can actually have both 5 and 6 installed and usable at once. And you can use the "add runtime" feature tio add your old runtime to Poser 6 (it works the same was in 5, 6 and 7).

I have P5, P6 and P7 all installed on the same partition without any problems.  My runtimes are, for the most part, living out on my external HDD and they all can share.

No
No
Yes :)

You do not need to uninstall Poser 5 before installing Poser 6.
Poser 6 will be installed to a separate directory.
You can easily access your Poser 5 content from within Poser 6.

Ok, how do I tell poser 6 to find an use my poser 5 runtime? Sorry if thats a dumb question but when it comes to using an external runtime I'm clueless, never done that before.

Thanks again guys I appreciate the help.

in the poser library panel keep clicking on the top arrow until it shows the runtime , then click on the small black arrow at the top right and select the add runtime item. Navigate to the folder that contains runtime folder , NOT the runtime folder itself .

Its in the manual .

To everyone who replied in this thread, thanks alot. I really appreciate the help in getting set up. I know P6 is probably old hat to you guys but I'm so thrilled I was finally able to upgrade to it.

Dr. Geep thanks, to the visually oriented such as myself those pictures are worth far more than I paid for them.
