Subject: [Semi-OT] Who's the oldest, still active member here?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 27 March 2009 at 1:19 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:01 AM

I just noticed that there's quite a few here whose membership dates back to 1999 - if I could remember my first membername/password here I guess I could muster a "2000" myself...

But that got me thinking.. since there's (at least as far as I can see) no list as such over members with "Member # 1, 2, 3 ect" here.. doe anybody know who's the oldest member here? Not in age but.. This place started back in 1998, right? Is there anyone still here who has been here from the absolute beginning? Back when this was still Poser Forum?

And I think we should honour those who has managed to have a 10 year anniversary here! It's a rare thing in Internet terms!

Well I wouldn't mind giving out a prize!

Perhaps we should have one for the biggest average posting count, too?  :m_coolsmirk: :m_wink:

I think it's a great idea ;)  No one's in the office today (moving), but, if the site won't sponsor something, I wouldn't mind adding a $10 GC to the pool (what I can afford myself) if we're giving out prizes :)

You know what?  Make that EVEN IF the site sponsors something.

I think the longest Active member would be PhilC.

Do I get anything for the correct answer?

I was here when it was the Poser forum for about a month before it switched over. Then I got caught up in the Dark Ages of Camelot online and didn't come back til 2001 as you can see by my official start date on this account.

Here I thought you were going to ask age wise. I bet I come pretty close, oldest age, that is. 71

PhilC, Nerd , Dr Geep and Awful soul (aery soul now) should be the oldest members I remember here... (I'm sure I forget some more ancients of this forum  )

Oh, just for, you know, giggles....do you mean, oldest member here in THIS forum, or sitewide?  Because, in Dec., we had a site contest, regarding cool milestones for our 10th birthday ;)

I went back and looked at my downloads CDs, and -- under another account name as well as my current one -- I've been here for ten years now. I must have started that membership shortly after Rsoty got started, bt I was always under the impression itd been around much longer.

LOL -- I can still remember watching the number of members logged on and thinking, "Good lord, how can they handle all that traffic?" - and of course now it's about a quarter of the current rate.

I can't really understand the 4 months gap though considering there's only 11 between me and BeyondVR.

Hm I'm member # 83499 - but that was as ernyoka1 (originally, before I changed my name) and that was 2002. I know I was here earlier, late 1999/beginning of 2000, I got Poser late 1999 when Poser 4 was new and wow! GG and I joined here - and RDNA as Ernyoka - then I was caught up by other stuff for quite a while, forgot all about Poser, but spring 2002 I was bored one day, found my Poser disk and decided to give it a second go.

Looked around for all the lovely freebies I remembered from last time, and found out I'd forgotten my password here. And that's how ernyoka1 came into being.

So while I'm in no way between the oldest members here, I've been her for quite some time :) Seen people come - and go :(

And this is STILL my #1 "home" on the 'net. (well here and RM)

Oh and Jen.. I guess I meant "here" - but I won't mind a site wide "Who's oldest" I just kinda thought the Poser forum would be the one who'd have the oldest member(s) :)

Wow, that's a great question, i.e., the original.  I was here before all the first series of breakups started happening.  Willow was the person in charge then I think along with IIRC "Gray"/"Grey"?  That could be wrong though, then there was a lot of shakeup stuff and bad blood all around, the eventual upshot being either the ouster of Willow et al OR her angrily departing and her subsequent formation of something called the PFO (Poser Forum Online?), which attempted to reestablish what had been "here" before.  That eventually died as well, IIRC.  Some camps formed and some left with her and some stayed, others eventually went on to form their own sites, i.e., Runtime DNA, Poser Pros, Rendervisions, etc.

That was before a lot of people started forming their own Poser related sites to sell stuff.  Evolution has been the name of the game, AFAIK.  More and better stuff, along with more stuff period, more of which is not necessarily better.  Just like real life.  (I know, for some Poser IS real life.)

Actually, though I sympathized with Willow to a degree, I like the fact that a more comprehensive marketplace developed.  And, I remember the day when I signed on and found "Funstuff" now called "Freestuff."  What a concept.  Who knew?  I probably have spent a small fortune in this marketplace alone

coldrake ( ) posted Fri, 27 March 2009 at 8:12 PM

I joined April 16 1999, back when this site was the PFO, (Poser Forum Online). The PFO was the very first online Poser forum. This site changed it's name to Renderosity some months later after Willow moved the PFO to another site.

I remember when they had a contest to name this site, and "Renderosity" won. I wish I could remember what the other choices were, it would be interesting to know what Renderosity might have been called.

After the PFO Willow had a site called Tempestuous Arts but it's not around anymore. I haven't been in touch with Willow and Grey for years. The last I know, Willow moved to Texas.

I can also remember the PFO as it was called when I registered.  I had been browsing the forums for a couple of months before deciding to register so I could ask for help in an "ambitious" render which by today's standards wouldn't even make it to the beginner's gallery :)

I do remember Virus who had the Props Club also being a member here and Fauve who was artist of the month or had picture of the month with an image of a violin player.  I would stare at it thinking if I'd ever be able to render something like that :)

Never was too vocal though as can be seen by the post count!

In the old days, was it the site or the chat that was called 'Errorcode 50' in recognition of the Poser error?
