Subject: Compressing a PSD file size

ThetaLov ( ) posted Sat, 09 May 2009 at 3:39 PM · edited Mon, 09 September 2024 at 9:51 AM

I'm working on my submission for the Logo Contest, and I've got the files all ready to go except for a small snag...

The PSD has to be 4200 x 3333 pixels, at 300dpi and it can't be more than 10 MB.  That's where I'm having my problem - my file is over 75 MB.

I don't know how to make the thing any smaller without sacrificing the quality and dimension size.  The "Save for Web" option only allows you to turn it into an image file (.jpg., .gif, etc.).

Any suggestions?  I'm using CS3 by the way.

It has to be in PSD format but do they need to see each layer? If you do a Layer > Flatten Image and resave as PSD it should reduce size quite a bit. Also better to use Save As giving it another name so you don't lose your original unflattened PSD.

Here's the rules.

It needs at least 2 layers.  I e-mailed Rendo to clarify if I can maybe keep the other layers as one, and then one separate layer that shows the text, effects, and stuff.  But in the meantime I didn't know i there was some other options that were available to try compressing it further.

And believe me, I know the value of having multiple copies of a file ;)
