What does (update dows) mean under the windows update.
The Mac update says (update from any version).

Mazak ( ) posted Wed, 27 May 2009 at 2:31 PM

I think it mean Update Downs. You need at least 7.21 installed already. This was the latest official update.

How come programme updates get so big?  I just checked back and 4.22 Full Update was only 11.8mb.  This latest is 170 !!!

Hi there,

just installed this built (first install was over the latest beta, second one was over the latest official update).

Both give me some kind of strange things with the display options. Here is what happens to me:

The first start of the built makes me smile, because the previews of the metaclouds are back, and the cloud opengl preview works. Preview rendering of saved plant species is ok too.

Now comes the point where I unchecked the "limit opengl polygon" box.

After the next start of Vue I don't have:

Scene and line antialiasing, and I don't have checked any of the opengl boxes, except the limit polygone one.

I can check this boxes without problems and I have antialiasing and opengl previews, until I restart Vue.

All boxes are unchecked again....

To do a simple test: In Vue's main window try to change the "polygon count" to "free resources" and restart Vue.

Be warned: I end up with "polygon count" again. And (this was my third try) changing this setting unchecks the display boxes too.

The "Test video button" says my nvidia 8800 card would perform well .......

Running Vue with admin rights on Vista does not solve the problem.

Done a few other tests:

It seems that I can't change anything in the display options tab. Settings are switched back after the next start.

Anyone else with similar problems ?

Ralf

Cheers

Ralf

ralfakerkhoff ( ) posted Wed, 27 May 2009 at 3:48 PM

Sorry, it's me again.

I now can change my preferences because :

After the tests above I have ended with 12 instances of Vue in the task manager.

Killed them manually, restarted Vue and reset options to default.

Until I don't change anything in the display tab settings, anything is fine.

Strange: Things which worked in the beta, did not work in the final update....

Good night

Ralf

Cheers

Ralf

Yes I have a BIG problem with this update. I can't change ANY of my preferences without Vue changing them back after I restart the Application. This is really annoying, even my Poser preferences need to be configured each time I start Vue.  :-(

Is this a PC only issue, or does it also occur on the Mac?

Anyone found out yet..........

It's weird on my Mac as well. I ran the update, but the old 7.21 version still opens when I click my shortcut in the dock. If I start the version that is in my applications folder, it is version 7.4. Really strange.

FYI

I have reported it yesterday night (german time) to e-on.

I' have just received an answer from Lee (e-on support):

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the report - I was able to verify here. I'm forwarding to the developers.

Best regards.

Same problems with Complete but I prefer the shortcomings of this current beta to those of the last (layers problem) - maybe, just maybe, they will get a usable version out next (hahaha)

In Complete I cannot seem to update the rendercows, they no longer automagically update, in fact they just don't do anything :(

Just noticed that:

The update file I have downloaded first was:

179.149.333 bytes

The one I have downloaded a few minutes ago has a size of:

179.144.051

Seems e-on has changed something.....

I'll give it a try.

Yepp, they have changed the update :-))

Although it reports the same built number, I now have:

-working metacloud previews

  • opengl clouds are working
-working preview of saved plant species

-and YES, options can now be changed

Seems this is the working version of Vue 7.4 :-)))

The problem with the Options preferences being saved has been fixed. Just redownload the update from the software updates page. This is Infinite only - the xStream should be available shortly.

Complete has been updated too, preferences now stick and objects display properly (instead of just boxes) in the viewports. Got to take my baseball cap off to them, that was a very quick piece of damage limitation 🆒

I just ordered 7.5 to skip over the 7.4 problems.

 Hi Shawn,
I have 7.4, so to order 7.5 do you buy maintenance, or just buy 7.5?  How much is it?

PS I can't quite figure it all out from e-on website.  I know i"m a little thick.

$335 for me.  I bought the boxed version with shipping added on.  You have to scroll down and click on the "+" button next to Vue Infinite 7 upgrades to see the right one to buy.  I'm not doing the maintenance thing.

craftycurate ( ) posted Mon, 01 June 2009 at 7:42 PM

OpenGL implementation has been broken on my system in 7.4 - I can't load high poly objects without my screen flashing black and sometimes getting BSOD when the screen display is updating to show the object.

Rolling back to 7.21 has solved the problem completely, so it's clearly somethign to do with 7.4.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 01 June 2009 at 9:14 PM

so Shawn, do you get Vue 8 free when it comes out then?
Also I thought if you buy 7.5 I saw on the site that you get automatically entitled to maintenance.

The way I understand it; if you buy the Maintenance Plan; you get 7.5 and 8 when it comes out.

If you just buy 7.5, well that's ALL you get. Personally and for me, that would be a wast of money. I'd rather just pay for version 8 when it comes out. The features in 7.5 will be included in that.  :-)

No. I have to pay for Vue 8 if I want to upgrade again.

I have to pay extra for maintenance.  I'm thinking that Vue Infinite 7.5 will be the last version of Vue that I buy.  I don't use Vue all that much and the software is showing its age (tech-wise) in the last couple of versions, while at the same time going up in price.

I bought 7.5 because I didn't want to wait for version 8 in order to do planets.  Who knows when 8 will be out, or what percentage of new features/bugs it will have.  I'm betting that 7.5 will be a stable version after 7.6 and 7.7 patches are done to it before they start messing with a version 8.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 01 June 2009 at 11:02 PM

Um not so sure about patches etc.  My version 7.4 is very unstable, and I wonder, in my funny little paranoid way (as I contemplate buying V7.5 to see if it will be stable) if this isn't a ploy to make people buy 7.5 by building instability into 7.4

Well.... I see 7.4 as a whole not being supported for much longer.  Maybe a 7.41 or a 7.42 patch will make it stable?  I'm gambling by buying 7.5.  If it's just as buggy as 7.4 with no clear fix in site from E-on, I'll just go back to using version 7.21 and that's as far as I'm willing to spend on the program anymore.  Vue has become an expensive hobby for me.

I've got my moneys worth with ZBrush.  I only paid for one version and they keep giving me new versions for free.  modo has had my most attention this last year.  It is my 3D workhorse.  And soon ZBrush will be a plugin for modo (and vica virca)!  See Go-Z at Pixologic.

When Terragen 2 comes down in price, I'll buy it instead of Vue 8.  Then I can be on a T3 upgrade path.

You know Shawn, the way I read things on the e-on site a few days ago, was if you buy 7.5 they automatically give you maintenance plan, and included with maintenance was free vue 8 when it comes out, so I would check if I were you.
yep the bugs have always been very annoying, and I have been a vue user since the onset.
It's a software that always promises more than it can deliver.  It gives one just enough promises to tempt and keep one interested.

You can buy the plan with the full version of 7.5 but not with the upgrade version of 7.5.
