How do we get from the before picture to the after picture for doing texture driven terrain in Bryce?

===========================================================

OS: Windows 11 64-bit
Poser: Poser 11.3 ...... Units: inches or meters depends on mood
Bryce: Bryce Pro 7.1.074
Image Editing: Corel Paintshop Pro
Renderer: Superfly, Firefly

First we need to make it straight and square. We use the Crop tool and use the little known item called “perspective” to make a straightened square (1024 x 1024 pixels to be exact)

Clicked on the check mark at the end to accept the change and save as a psd file in a separate folder from the original file. Now you will end up with something like the above.

Now you’re ready to begin… First we need to clean up the photo…I like cleaning up the color noises that are in the picture by doing the following: Image ->Adjustments > Photo Filter -> In the Use drop down menu box, select Cooling Filter LBB  and set the Density to 29% and check mark the Preserve Luminosity box.

Click ok and check the effect… Neat, eh?

Next we are going to adjust the contrast to make the roughness stand out more and tone down the brightness. Back image ->Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast: adjust the brightness to -9 and the contrast to +15.

Now it’s time to reduce the noise inherent in almost all digital photos.

Filters -> Noise -> Reduce Noise.

On the Basic tab use the following input

Strength: 8

Preserve Details: 100 %

Reduce Color Noise 74 %. This one you can adjust to taste and judgment.

Sharpen Details 74 %

Make sure Remove JPEG Artifact box is checked.

Click ok and you’re done….

Now we can go to the next steps that AgentSmith mention which is Median and Gaussian Blur (I used the value of 1 for each of those steps)

And we end up with the one above: Nice, eh?

The above is the texture I use this for the texture and the desaturated one for the bump in the terrarain editor.

And that's that for this part... Coming up next: Quick Tips on Selections Madness

I put the finished example that I created from this method in my gallery.
