Subject: Low resolution character goes berserk

Hi!

As im a fan of low poly 3d stuff I some time ago constructed a low resolution V4, i did the work, checked the result, was pleased, saved the character to library and then forgot about it.

Today when I loaded it and for some reason checked "Geom stats" there was a nasty suprice (se picture).

Where do all these magnets come from? My guess is that they are the reason for the extra polygon weigth.

Anybody got an idea? The character is an imported object with bones later added in the setup room (copy of v4 bones).

V4 is full of magnets to help joint smoothing. If you used the v4 cr2  for your figure thats where they came from .

I don't think the magnets should add up to that many polys.  In the default figure those magnets are customized to have their geometry removed anyway and are replaced with null objects that have no polygon count.  There's a non-subdivided version of V4 with the magnets installed that is bundled with DAZ|Studio that you may want to switch to.

edit: just checked this myself:
Victoria 4.2 (17.87K) totals --> 25678 polys      26403 verts

Hi!

The object file is from daz studio, I took the lod 17k object and imported to Poser, went to setup room and added V4 bones, checked geom stats and noticed that it contained around half amount of polygons compared to standard V4.

So this V4_lite has not been made of a standard V4 cr2 so the mags can not come from that, is it possible that they have been added trough one of thoose bat files that is used to update V4 every now and then?

Hi again!

I have now "cleaned" out all of the magnets and the character is back to normal again, however, if you look at the new picture there is something green pokin out of the belly.

When I select it I get these parameter dials (se picture), if i try to delete it the character goes with it.

This is starting to get weird, any clues on this one?

You're doing this the very hard way.

Oh hi!

Nevermind the last question as the same thing is present in standard V4 if you check in the Hiearchy editor.

But my original question still bugs me, it clearly was the magnets that caused the problems but why did the polygon count get so extremely high ? and were did they come from?

Regards / Jonny

P.s I dont mean to do it the hard way, its the only way i know.

I repeat, this is already done for you in the free version of DAZ|Studio (rigged, low-rez version of V4).

Hi again!

At the time I constructed this one I tried to export the low resolution character from Daz studio but didnt succeed, so.. I went a different route.

But that is not important now, im just curious of the phenomena, why this happend?

I'm sure partly because your process is undoing the work done to remove the geometry of the magnets - when you apply the V4 rig, Poser helpfully "corrects" all the null geometry and puts it back to polygonal magnets and magnet bases.

To use the DAZ|Studio low-rez V4 all you have to do is copy the CR2 and OBJ...

Hi pjz99!

I must have missed that one when I installed studio back in january (just to do this manouver), the only way to get a low rez V4 was by usin the V4_LOD_17K , so technically i could have taken the V4.cr2 + V4_LOD_17K object and then edit the cr2 to point to the smaller object, or maybe i just had a brain farth and didnt see the ready made character.

Maybe I have to install Studio again and do as you suggest.

Thx for your input.

Regards / Jonny
