I am currently making an animation for youtube.

I want it to look as good as possible, is this better achieved by using a higher resolution or by using a lower resolution with increased detail. Because I did some 800 x 600 that look great when on a small screen, but appear all blocky when enlarged but did some 1200 x 900 that took less time and were less detailed but because of the resolution when shrunk they actually looked better.

What does everybody aminate at ? does it look any good?

Hello!

I usually use 640*480 as the maximum size for youtube animations. Anything larger costs a lot of rendering time. I am just playing around, so super high quality is not my goal.There is also some loss of detail due to youtubes compression. How much depends to some degree on the video compression you use. Here is an example i did when playing with the new procedural planets:

This was rendered in VUE 7.5 infinite at 640*480 with 24 frames per second in "broadcast" quality. Took almost four days on my 64bit dual Xeon workstation....
