What's going on???

There's nothing at the bookstore . Anything you want to order, you have to place an order for. 
That sucks.

The only books they have are Books specific to MAYA, or 3ds max. 

All i want is a cinematography/Character animation book with theory, explanations about Cinematograhic techniques, and alot of theory about how to make good animation and shots etc.

Anyone have a good recomendation by the way?

the one I have is a book from 1998 called "Character Animation" by George Maestri. it's great but i need more examples and more explantion. So i was looking for an upto date book similar to that one. 

I guess i have to order cause they don't sell anything at the bookstore.

Maestri's book is great, and he's got a sequel out that's also good. My favorite for animation in general is The Animator's Survival Kit, by Richard Williams. It's not for 3D per se, but it's awfully good.

I buy all my new books at Amazon, because it's cheaper. I also get a lot of good books at used book stores. There's a chain around here called Half Price Books; I've gotten some really wonderful books there, on all topics, at really good prices. Plus, they buy old books (it's not a lot, but it's better than giving them away if you don't want them anymore).

you may luck out now and again and find an old bryce book thats not been sent back. occasionally youll find the latest say poser book... but that only lasts a week or two before headoffice decide it`s not selling, pull it from the shelves and put the latest photoshop CS4 book next to the 5 copies of photoshop 5 for dummies. (work out the logic there right?)

for some reason the ordering ppl think all that we want is adobe-max-maya. but since thats all they stock, thats all that sells, so then thats all that they order since thats all they see selling.

those that do want the books in turn goto to amazon or specialist bookstores, like on a uni campus, to get the books instead of ordering them at chapters and the like...

One problem with bookstores is that animation is a rather specialised subject so they don't tend to carry many books on it (if they carry them at all)
I gave up on bookshops for 3D books ages ago - I get mine from Amazon usually

Yes, Amazon for all books. I know it's a bit OT but I found "the Boys from Brazil" dvd at Amazon and if you can find a dvd that rare there, you can find anything there. Sorry, didn't really mean to rhyme. My Cinematography library is comprised completely of special order books. Not one was available at the book stores here; and Borders is getting worse with stocking anything, it seems.

Bookstores try to carry what will sell... that means the more niche something is, the less likely they are to have it.

Questions of tact aside, Wolfman's observation is not without merit. Speaking form experience, it is all to easy to get caught up in endless preparation. At some point, you just have to start, writing, programming, painting etc. You can never anticipate every single thing you will need, every snag you will hit, everything that  may have to be redone in light of experience - those are inevitable. I still collect pieces for scenes I thought about doing years ago but I am a Poser dilletante with no real passion for art. Tebop, you have passion, imagination and obviously some degree of talent. Don't let your vision get submerged in obsessive attempts to have all the answers before you actually start creating it.That is not meant as a criticism, just a thought.
