Subject: How do I import one of my own "single texture mapped" Poser animals into C Pro 6

Lyne ( ) posted Wed, 22 July 2009 at 2:24 AM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 8:08 AM

Hi... I got carrara 6 pro just to use Howie's fantastic landscapes.... but I would really like to add one of my own "single mapped poser" animals into the "true light" of carrara, rather than my old way of doing that via photoshop in post work. I CAN do that still, if there is something funky about how carrara will/will not read poser texturs. I know it uses "shaders" and my textures are good old jpg's or tiffs.... I will not be up grading, and I will use photoshop if I have to... but...

any suggestion, tutorial, link to a how to, for C Pro 6 would be great!

I did try to import one of my chickens from a pz3 (using poser 6 by the way) and it's map was not there.

Should I load the animal it'self and then assign the map as a shader or something?

Thanks!

Lyne

Hey Lyne! Great to see you about. Please!----where can we get your old great stuff now please.

In answer to your question, your Poser Runtimes load into the Carrara Content part of the Browser and you can then just drag them into your scene.

Also, your works, like the Kangaroos say, can be loaded  directly into the Carrara Runtime itself.

Hi Lyne,

Good to see you back... I always loved your stuff, too. 😄

The term "shader" is just another word for the materials and textures that cover a surface. Instead of the "node-based" approach that Poser uses, it uses "channels" and trees of inter-related items.

For example, in Poser you'd plug a texture node into the diffuse socket to paint your colors on the object. In Carrara, you go into the color channel, and add a texture map level to it's tree, and add the texture map in there. Same thing, different name.

Note, though, that some things are handled differently in Carrara than in Poser (well, all 3D programs are a little different).

I can highly recommend Mark Bremmer's tutorial course over at VTC for all things Carrara but especially shaders. It's not unreasonably priced, and it's an amazingly in-depth look at every aspect of Carrara. He's got some free intro tutotrials at his web site http://www.markbremmer.com/ that can get you going.

If you imorted a poser scene by FILE>IMPORT, then any jpg textures should have been on the object in C6. (I do it all the time) So, somehow it was lost... To get it back, you select the object, then go into the texture room (paintbrush icon on the upper right of standard workspace). Under the list of shader options will be "color". Click on the drop down arrow for color and you will see one of the options is "texture map". Select this and a browser opens for you to find the jpg or tiff you wish to apply.
Yes, the BEST tutorial is Mark Bremmer's at VTC.
For some simple, quick, and FREE tutorials, see "carraralounge.com".
Over at the DAZ forums are some tutorials on adding your poser runtime to the carrara browser (see BWTR above). Doing it like that is the most efficient way of handling poser content in Carrara.

Hi... PLEASE do not ask for my animals as they are not sold anywhere, anymore... so sorry!!!

Thanks so much for the how to on textures... going to "color" and browsing to the texture will be fairly easy! :)

Hello,
You will be very surpised to see how easy it is for Carrara to load some Poser runtime!

This is one of the images I created in  Carrara using Lynes Kangaroos.

Sorry to hear all that great stuff is no longer available.
