I need some major assistance. I'm at my end. I've been trying to take tutorials after tutorials only to have error after error, nothing works.

Probably the main reason is most tutorials do not list if they are AS1,2, or 3

I'm currently trying to make a fly out type thing in actionscript 2

If you look at the pic I provided everything under the patients column will be buttons. right now only TBI is a button.
What I want to do; is be able to click that button, and have another movie clip (the blue square with writing in the library) show up over the desk area.
Then do the same thing with the other 2 buttons.
I was thinking about just doing an alpha tween on the movies to show up once I click the button.

Right now I'm working with 4 layers a background, a button layer, the board with the names on it is a layer and I have my movie clip layer.

Could someone please tell me how in the world I can code this. I have 0 knowledge of scripting. or perhaps direct me to a tutorial along these lines that actually works on AS2.

So  you are looking for a type of disjointed effect... I would recommend Flash Explained It's mostly AS2 with a few AS3 thrown in. You may have to search to find what you are looking for tho.  Another site I would recommend is Kirupa. Both site have links to excellent resources where you can find additional information and tutorials in AS scripting.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the links ThunderStone.

I think I have what I want to do at least partialy.

I'm kinda stuck though. on the animation if I click the TBI button when any of the pop-out windows are open It will close that window then I have to reclick to get a window open again.
with the other buttons each time I click on them they will reload instantly. does anyone know why this is happining?

heres what I've got going on:
on the actions line  frame 1  the script shown in the pic provided.  all other actions are just stop actions
the lables are just the frames playing the animation
the content frames are where the animation is actually occuring

the rest of the lines pretty much speak for themselves buttons and backgrounds
Here is a copy of my test movie  www.haloskydesigns.com/test/untitled-11.html
To show what I'm talking about.

Thanks

Check your movie clip animation for TBI and compare it with the others... I think there's something missing there that is present in the others.

Thanks, I looked and looked I just can't seem to find any differences other than the text inside. I created a square as a background then converted it to a movie clip. I then duplicated it 3 times and placed the text inside.  my actions are all the same and my stops are in the same place the only thing that I can think of is the animation frame counts might be different but I doubt that would cause the issue.

thanks again for the idea, and I'm definatly open to more ideas if you get any

cheers
Jeff

I wished I could be more help but I can't tell unless I can access the file to see where the problem lies. Perhaps if you could send me the file (saved as a Flash 8 version) maybe I could tell you what is missing. If you're agreeable to this, send me a PM and I'll forward to you my email where you can send it to. Or you can post the URL where I can download the file to check it out.

I swear I dont get how people can figure out these scripts.
now I'm trying to add a simple script that of course does not work.
once my text movie clip opens I would like to click on it to get it to close.
Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way as usual, but I opened the MC and placed in a button.
I made the hit area the same size as the movie clip.
now if I try to add a clickable action such as onRelease I get an error stating I can only do this to a button.
well how is that, being a button will not allow you to place in any action script?

Getting very aggravated with this project.

Everything I'm trying to do is simple commands but they just don't want to work correctly.
