Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 02 11:49 pm)
Let's see if it falls off the page; if so, I'm going to start a P8 blog.
I've spent the weekend hopping between P8 and various threads here. There's a lot of useful info being given out and I'm putting this together with various tests I've been running, and I've made a couple of minor 'discoveries'. I need to check these out further.
I think there is merit in assembling the information into a more coherent form, so watch this space.

Be sure to check out the Poser 8 Content Python script from Dimension3D - Render Firefly.py. It lets you time your renders, among other cool things. {E.g., you can set the raytrace bounces independently of the IDL bounces and render using only the IDL to see what's going on.}

Indeed, and here's a tip: you need to enable / disable IDL, as required, in your normal render settings before starting this script.

It occurred to me that all the information contained in multiple threads here could usefully be collected and summarised in a 'Sticky'.
Could one of the mods consider this?
To get the ball rolling, here's one for those who have just downloaded and installed P8:
Before you do anything, run the script: Scripts > Partners > Shaderworks > install_runtimes
This will close Poser and it all happens very quickly. Restart Poser, and there are all your runtimes. You can then delete any that you don't want. This is much faster than adding runtimes individually.
