Subject: P8 does not save camera position in *.pz3 file. Why?

First I opened my old *.pz3 files that were saved in Poser Pro, I had to change the camera position and the intensity of the lights because both were not like they were in Poser Pro.

Now I saved *.pz3 files in Poser 8 and the light intensity was correct as saved but the camera was not in the same position. This was saved in Poser's earlier versions why is that now absent?

I haven't had this problem.  When I open an old file, camera position seems to have been saved/loaded as I would expect.  You may want to open a service incident with Smith Micro:

Poser 8 does load the correct camera, in my case at least, but it doesn't load the old preview window size, which poser 7 and poserpro did!. And I don't like that!

Submit a ticket on it and ask for it to be changed, you're not the only one.

In my case P8 loads the correct camera too (I work only with the Main Camera), but the position is changed heading away from the scene. The *.pz3 saved in Poser Pro are even placed in another direction when opened in P8.

True, @bobberthijs , I don't like it either. This makes it impossible to render a scene as one wanted in a certain camera angle if one has to close the program and wants to render at another time. Which is important since P8 is not rendering faster than Poser Pro, no it's slower if you load a big scene with many characters.

@pjz99: I already know that :-) but I hoped there would be an easy solution and it was just my mistake.

Is the data in the pz3 and being mishandled or is Poser 8  simply not reading it correctly . ?

Window size information in the saved scene file appears to be just ignored completely.  You always get what you had the window sized and positioned at before you opened any file, when the window is set to "floating".  I guess this is because they expected everyone to use the document window set to "docked".

My preview window is indeed always docked.

The data for the camera position is obviously not read correctly by Poser 8.

Well, it is, but it assumes that you had render dimensions set - if you did, then you get very consistent behavior on loading a file.  If you didn't, then the camera still isn't moved, but the render area will not be the same - annoying for you if you hadn't been using fixed render dimensions, I know.

@All: thanks for trying to help.

Now I have found the solution: in Poser 7 and Poser Pro it did not matter whether you open a *.pz3 scene coming from FILE>OPEN or  IMPORT>OPEN, in both cases the camera position stayed the way it was saved.

However in Poser 8 you should NOT IMPORT *.pz3 because it's only working with the correct camera position via OPEN.

Sounds like they fixed Import to me. Import never should have imported camera settings, just content. I'd hate importing content into a scene only to have my current camera angle iI'd been working on changed by an import of content.

That makes sense, true, but I was not aware of it. I'm glad the solution is found, I was used to open via import, it's no big deal to change the habit.

Actually, that was a bug then in Poser 7 and Poser Pro.. the Import Scene should not have changed Cameras, because it should have only imported the Content of the Scene (it is a method to add a set up from another project to your current project)

I will check it out.. I use to use Import> Poser Scene all the time, but have not done any big projects like that in a couple of years.
