I have all my runtimes except my basic Poser 8 runtime on an external HD.  I am forever accidentally starting P8 without my external HD plugged in.

I lose all my runtimes, and this creates many problems for me.  In P7, I used Shaderwork's runtime utilities to add all of them again.  It was a little bit annoying, but I managed :)  The script doesn't work in P8.  Here are my problems in P8.

1.  When I add all the new runtimes via the included Shaderworks script, it adds a NEW Poser 8 runtime as well as a NEW Downloads runtime.  I guess that's because I have those runtimes in my Poser 7 setup, so it copies those over again.   I can delete the second copy of Poser 8, but I can't delete the copy of the Downloads runtime.  The "remove runtime" button (a little file with a minus sign on it) doesn't appear when I have that runtime selected.  Now I'm up to five instances of the Download runtime (which has nothing in it and I want to get rid of it).  How do I stop this from duplicating those two runtimes?

1.  If I've added a new runtime since having Poser 8, I guess I need to go and add it to Poser 7 so I can use this utility?

3.  Shouldn't there be an easier way of doing this?  Is there somewhere I can save my current preferences and reload them quickly?  Can't Poser be a little more forgiving and just remember those runtimes if they just aren't there?

Here's a way... not sure if it's the best way, but it should work.

Set up Poser with all your libraries. Close Poser, and make a copy of your LibraryPrefs.xml file. It's in your Poser 8.0 preferences folder in your user profile.

When you make the same mistake again, close Poser and restore the LibraryPrefs.xml file from this copy.

It (almost) goes without saying that if you (e.g.) add a new Library you will need to make a new copy of the file.

(edit) You can edit the LibraryPrefs.xml file to get rid of all those Download Libraries. I have deleted mine, as I never use it.

One thing you can do when you open Poser and realize you've screwed up is you can open Task Manager, and under the Processes tab, select the Poser process and click the End Process tab.
Poser will just go away, poof and not write an updated preferences file.

It should be mentioned there's a potential for preferences data to get corrupted that way, so you should have backups anyway.

Ok, thanks IsaoShi.  I just can't seem to find that LibraryPrefs.xml.  I thought that might be the way to go, but I did a search for the file on my entire C: and I'm not finding it.  I've looked in C:documents and settings  ... and then what?

And do you maybe also know where your Favourites get stored? Because I changed a runtime's name and now Poser compalins that it can't fins a linked figure... Deleting those favourites doesn't work. They just show up again with the next start...

I'm on Mac and I can never fully remember the Windows folder paths for the LibraryPrefs.xml file. What OS are you using? (edited to add:)  If Windows, which version? The paths are different in XP and Vista.

Your stored Favourites are in your Poser 8 Runtime folder under: Runtime / Libraries / Collections.

Thanks, IsaoShi for replying so fast. Im on WIn XP, and I used its search, but there is no such file on my hardrive. Which is interesting because the runtimes get loaded... creepy.

On WinXP, it's something like this:

C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsApplication DataPoser8.0LibraryPref.xml

However, normally you don't see all those folders. You have to go into Folder Options and tick the option that says "Show hidden files and folders".

That's so helpful of Windows, isn't it?
The way by default it hides stuff that can be really important and half the people don't know how to get at. ;-)

YAY, thank you! Finally found it, and will now keep it round safely.

Also found out in the meantime that you can delete those double and triple Poser 8 and Download runtimes in P8 itself, too. The evening is saved! ^^
