Subject: how do I get vue 7.5 + maintenance to get vue 8 free?

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 14 September 2009 at 10:54 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 3:18 AM

I'm thinking of upgrading my vue 7.4 xstream to  Vue 7.5 xStream but I want to get the free upgrade to 8 when it comes out - so if I get the standard maintenance plan + vue 7.5xstream sidegrade download, how much is the total - I know it must be on their site but I am having trouble quite grasping it all.
Is this still a good thing to do or is some kind of sale they had over with now?

I've asked them a couple of weeks ago and they were still undecided on update details from Vue 7.5 to  Vue 8.

Nearly three hundred dollars for a half upgrade is an insane price (in my opinion) if it isn't somehow linked to a discount on Vue 8.

At this point, I'm probably better off waiting for the real upgrade.

I don't know if it is or isn't at this point and I couldn't find information about it at the e-on market.

When I bought 7INF without the maint., the deal back then was I could buy 7.5INF without the maint. when it came out.  Or I could just hold off and buy 8INF without the maint. for the same price as 7.5INF was offered.

Since the 7.4 update was nuts for me.  I chose to buy 7.5 so I could at least have a working version of Vue Infinite.  And I won't be buying Vue 8 Infinite.  I'll keep an eye out for 8.5 or 9 because by then there should be a lot more new features for the price.

I think there are only two noticeable new features between 7.5 and 8 right now.  Not worth the money to buy into yet.

Yep.  Displacement terrain sculpting is one of the new features.  But is it worth the price they're asking for?  I have plenty of displacement scuplting apps already.  I prefer GeoControl2 to do terrain generation for Vue anyway.

So, Esther.

It looks your only choice these days is to pay the $595 for the xStream Maint. and get 7.5 instantly and then 8 for free when it's released.  It's cheaper than buying 7.5 xStream and then buying 8 xStream later.

I didn't see that one on their site when I looked a few days ago;  I will  look again.

You just buy the maint. thing now these days instead of the actual version to stay current.  If you want to go that route.

It's too incremental of added new features to me though.  At least E-on finally fixed bump maps after a few versions.  I would hate that to break again in a later version.

I still can't believe you all are falling this new scam upgrade policy without any resistance.  Let your money do the talking when it comes to this new maintenance plan scam.  Show E-on we won't put up with 6 month extortion charges to use buggy software.

We Don't Want It!!!  Get rid of the incremental upgrade charges and maintenance plan.

We should get support (maintenance) upon purchase not because of a plan.

I your case, CE, you should buy software from elsewhere instead of from E-on.  That would be your vote and you'd have software you prefer.

I know many users that share your sentiments and we do deserve better support at these prices. Other companies like Luxology, Maxon, etc. have better licenses and support service. But until e-on listens to their customers the only other option is the one you stated which is unfortunate.
