I can't wait to see what Planet 51 inspires here. both model and/or Art wise. It looks to be really cool, sadly I won't get to see it till next weekend.

I was going to see it for it's toony aspects.

I've read nothing but horrible horrible reviews so far.  I don't mean your average "it's a kids movie", "been there done that" kinda of reviews.  I mean HORRIBLE reviews, like kids bored, no laughs, etc etc.

I'm gunna wait for DVD and rent if I see it at all.

If that is true, I'll bet it will come out really fast.

pro animators are allegedly bashing it for cheapening their craft, by using newbies getting paid wayyyy less than what pro animators expect.  (e.g. $500 for 500 - 1000 frames - not certain).

What do the foreign animators get paid on jobs like the Simpsons?

6.000.000 yen?

the pro animators doing the bashing are the ones who send their animatics to PRC and korea to save money.  they're like medieval monks - they don't want others to get a foot in the door, for fear there'll be major upheaval in the animation biz.

OK well I saw it and I am a simple guy so I liked it, Yes is an old story not really new on that score but days few storyies are new, but I really liked the look and feel and I enjoyed the world they created as well as the 50's references. I was hoping it's look and feel might inspire some of the artists here but I don't expect that will happen. just from the impact of poor reviews, too bad cuz I for one would certainly purchas more stuff in this particular toony style.
