Subject: Contact info for 3dcommune?

Puntomaus ( ) posted Thu, 26 November 2009 at 6:12 PM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 2:16 AM

If I understand correctly what's mentioned on the bottom of this page http://www.3dcommune.com/  then they are going to sell the following:

3DCommune.com - domain name, hardware/server, databases and all content as it was right up to when it was shut off

*3DCDevelopers.com - domain name, PHP BB databases, information, forums, galleries, etc... ?

Ok, let  me get this straight: they are going to sell the databases with all the members information in it to a third party? All infos like real name and email and payment info? I am not sure but I can't remember that I have ever agreed upon this and I do not think it's legal to sell this kind of information without having asked the people those information belongs to.

So please, if  anyone has the contact info of the person who was running this site then please drop me a PM. I want to have my info removed from their database before it gets sold to whomever.

sure sounds like it. To be honest, unless the buyer actually wants to start the site up, I imagine it will be sold piece by piece.

However, the marketing data is the main thing that's worth all the money...

Thank you, Laurie :)

pakled, I fear you're right. However, I think before closing it all down members should have given the opportunity to delete their accounts and to remove their images from the galleries.

Anyhoo, I don't want to start anything here, just needed a pointer into the right direction.

I was gonna suggest that a "trusted marketplace", e.g. daz or 'rosity, purchase said site, but that would have already occurred, behind the scenes, if it were gonna happen.  I've noticed that when daz or 'rosity buys a site, nobody gets worried about their data.  don't quote me on this, but there is a body of law developing on who owns the customer's data.  the answer is unclear, but it keeps coming up all the time.  I ain't a lawyer.
