anyonw know anything about this huge book that I have seen a release date of July 2009, which is nowhere to be found?

Still in the works?

If so, can we see a TOC ?

Poser Bible? lol  I doubt the guy has even gotten close to the New Testament. And some of the scenes? Noah's Ark? Sodom and Gomorrah? No way you could render that in Poser. It would crash like the Tower of Babel. You'd have to export it into another app, so then it wouldn't really be the Poser Bible anymore would it?

Maybe it's being updated with the changes for Poser 8. Looks like it will come out, though, since it has a cover done. There was a previous Poser book for animation that got delayed several months when Poser Pro came out, but it eventually was released with different cover art.

The economy could also be delaying it. Lots of things have been delayed or shelved because of it.

Its not avai;able anywhere yet, that's why I asked if anyone knows the status, as it was supposed to have been released in July.

There are some Smith Micro employees that frequent this forum, so I'm hoping one of them will see this thread and know what's up. Maybe even Steve.

he's one of larry weinberg's pals, hence he must know something. did he work for fractal and metacreations?  the good old days.  poser has changed somewhat since then. somebody buy the bible and let us know, as there may be various lacunae in the official manual(s).

Well, even when there are not lacunae as such, most of the details are very sketchy. For example, I've been looking at the manual to help me in the Hair Room, and although e.g. all the styling tools are listed, all they get are a couple of sentences each, which frankly allows you to know (kinda) what the tool is for, but doesn't really teach anything about its use, still less optimal methods.

I prefer Deecy's Practical Poser books by Denise Tyler myself, but it looks like someone other than Denise is writing Practical Poser 8!!!

Believable3D ( ) posted Sat, 26 December 2009 at 4:14 PM

Only 250 pages? Doesn't sound very comprehensive... I imagine it focuses on the most important stuff, I guess.

I'm curious about this:

Poser 7 Revealed by Kelly L. Murdock is basic.  But always on My desk.  A new addition to the pile (of two) is Jeremy Birn's Digital Lighting and Rendering..   This book came very highly recommended from another thread..

If Poser 8 Revealed was on the shelves here in OZ.   I would take a long look..  hoping for a more (much) detailed rundown on P8's IDL system..

Believable3D ( ) posted Sat, 26 December 2009 at 5:43 PM

I have Birn, and have read it. It's good... though not really in the same ballpark as what we're talking about here.

Judging from the table of contents on Amazon, I wouldn't hope for too much regarding a great deal of detail on IDL, although it's talked about.

Well put. About as useful as mammary glands on a male porcine mammal. So much of the manual is like that, pointing you to another section, and then, still another, which doesn't even touch on the subject at all. Or it says a thing can be done but forgets to mention the how. Material room? Nodes? Forget it. It's the Jerry Seinfeld of manuals: all about nothing.
