Subject: question about moving objects

Silkie ( ) posted Sun, 24 January 2010 at 9:34 PM · edited Fri, 16 August 2024 at 8:45 PM

 Hello again,

I upgraded my vue 7 xstream to vue 8 and I noticed something a little wonky in both versions.  I'm wondering if it is just me or not.  The whole scene moves when I move an object.  It doesn't happen everytime I move an object, only after I've moved it around several several times.  It just happened to me a few minutes ago.  I was moving around a plant and I moved it more times than I can count because I was experimenting with where I wanted the plant in the scene.  It was moving fine and then out of nowhere the whole scene moved with it.  When this happens I have to save, exit the program, restart the program and reopen the file.  Then after (probably) 20 or so moves it does it again.

It's weird.  The objects are not grouped or linked in any way.  I don't have multiple objects selected.  Like I said, the object moves by itself several times before this happens.

Am I doing something to cause this?

Thank You
Kelly

Could it be that only the center views is on in the preferences?

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

I think it's because your camera height is locked to a certain height above the object right below it. If you move an object under the camera, the camera will move up to keep the same distance betweeen it and the new object below it. To deactive it, just click on the little lock in the object properties panel when the camera is selected.

I've had something happening to me occasionally which is Vue selecting more objects than those I want. I mean, I select one and Vue selects a few more, randomly. If I don't notice that, when I move one, it moves everything. Of course, I normally notice it and select only one and then it's ok. That happens very rarely but when it does the safest is to restart Vue. I never complained because it's very rare and not reproduceable.

@wabe, I'm not sure.  I wasn't aware there was anything in preferences for this so I'll definitely take a look and see if that's what is causing this.  Thank you for that heads up.

@bruno,  that's another thing I didn't know about.  I'll check that too.  thanks.

@rutra, do you mean that vue selects more than one object in the pane on the right that shows layers and objects and whatnot?  When you select something there it is highlighted. I haven't noticed vue selecting more than one object at a time in that particular panel.

Yes. Good. That means that whatever is happening to you, it's not what sometimes happens to me.

I think you may have been right Bruno.  I deactivated it by clicking on the lock icon and so far it hasn't happened again.  Hopefully that's all it was.
