Subject: Self illuminating object in Poser 8

Hi all,

 I'm trying to figure out how to make a true self illuminating object/light (neon lights) in Poser 8. I was sorta able to do this in Poser 7 but wasn't really happy with the end result. Does anyone know if there how to or a better to do this in Poser 8 or does anyone have any good links for tutorials for lighting in Poser 8?

Use the Ambient channel in the material room and render with IDL.    Try setting the ambient value to something higher then 1.

The use of IDL will enhance the realism as Vestmann commented.  In P7, you need to cheat by introducing gather nodes in surrounding material to create the illusion of reflected light.

I'm still trying to figure out where to put the gather node channel in Poser 7.  I can't wait to get version 8.

Vestmann and hborre - you guys have been giving lots of good answers, and very succinct, too. Thanks. Saves me the time to type them. But now I'm typing to thank you. Heheheh.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
