Subject: Help needed. Poser 8: Broken Joint editor

noxiart ( ) posted Wed, 24 March 2010 at 1:55 AM · edited Mon, 27 May 2024 at 11:55 PM

Well, it seems the next SR-3 for Poser 8 is coming SOON.

Sooo, maybe , hopefully this problem can be fixed before it is issued.

Here's the problem:
Poser 8 with SR-1 installed runs fine on my machine.

But when I install SR-2 or SR-2.1, this happens:
I load a figure and start the joint editor to work on the rigging.
But when I select a joint and try to grab a MAT-sphere to move it around, it just "zooms into space", leaving a broken joint.
(Which the "undo" function can't fix, btw)

I think I'm not the only one having this problem, but I suspect a lot of people don't notice this problem simply because they don't use the joint editor.

So may I ask that you do a quick joint editor test to check if it works properly on your machine ?
(With SR-2 or SR2.1 installed, of course)
Just load a figure and try to grab a MAT-sphere.
If it (slowly) follows your cursor, everything's fine.
If it "jumps" as soon as you touch it, then there's a problem.

Maybe if this bug can be detected across several different machines SM has a better chance to fix it.
(Or actually "un-fix" it as the joint editor worked worked until SR-1)

Many thanks in advance !

Be sure to report this bug to Smith-Micro. Not sure if they follow Rendo threads...

II am using:

Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit OS
Dual Core 2.6 GHz
4 GB RAM

Poser 8 v8.0.2.10911

FYI:

Joint Editor MAT-sphere(s) appear to work properly.
UNDO, also, appears to work properly.

noxiart: I have the exactly same problem.Do you also have a wacom driver installed?

noxiart ( ) posted Wed, 24 March 2010 at 11:04 AM

@RobynsVeil: Already did so a couple of weeks ago.
But they don't oficially support non-US versions of Windows.

@Dr Geep: Many thanks for testing.

@-Timberwolf: Nope, no Wacom. Just an "acient" three button HP mouse. :-)

Might also add my system specs:
ACER Aspire Laptop
AMD Athlon X2
ATI Radeon Crossfire
Windows VISTA 32 (German copy)
4GB RAM
(And YES, I DO run the newest available drivers)

As I said, SR-1 runs fine on my system.
And as long as the other SR's didn't result in a noticeable improvement over SR-1 I didn't mind.
But now that the next SR will bring a fully functional library, I'd  really like this to be fixed.

question... do you use a . or a , for decimal?

geep ( ) posted Wed, 24 March 2010 at 11:35 AM

Ah HA !!! ... Ye olde "comma" (,) versus "period" (.) may rear it's ugly head yet again.

??????????

The system uses comma for decimal.

But when I type values in Poser I use the period.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Wed, 24 March 2010 at 12:17 PM

ah. that could still be the issue.  anyway you can use one or the other, not both?
see using both, you could be confusing the issue on what your actually typing in.

testing this at the very least would remove it from the possible ideas of what it could be at the very least.. but I have a feeling that's the issue...

If you boot into Safe Mode, and run Poser, does the problem still happen?

LMK

Probably edited for spelling, grammer, punctuation, or typos.

And the winner is....KAIBACH !!!!   :-)

I set Vista to globally use the period separator and that fixed it.

Ok, it's more a workaround than a fix, because as a German I'd rather prefer my sytem to adhere to german spelling.
But at least that should give SM enough info to permanently fix it.

Funny thing is, I still reverted back to SR-1 as with SR2.1 rendering was noticeable slower !
Firefly lost 2 seconds on a "Nude figure with hair" and half a minute on a "Figure with a few scene props".

(Timed with the "render Firefly" script)

Again, thanks to Kaibach for steering me into the right direction.
