Subject: How to Start a Poser Props-Textures-Etc Web Page?

doggod ( ) posted Tue, 30 March 2010 at 6:11 PM · edited Thu, 15 August 2024 at 3:41 AM

I've always wanted my own web page...someplace to show my art and let others d/l the things I've created over time (props tex etc)...cuz it seems a real waste not to have the models and things just sit there.

Sooo...I figure to put them up on ShareCG but would still like my own web page to link them and show my artwork.  Not to mention that I have Adobe CS4 Suite...and it would give me a reason to learn the InDesign and Fireworks packages.

But anyone out there with experience in this who knows the best and cheapest way to get a web site?

Thx.. BTW, I would have put this on the HTML forum, but there hasn't been any activity there in at least 45 days.

I do mine with dot5hosting for $4 per month. Just do the page in any web editor or even publisher and your golden. FTP surfer is a good  tool as well and you might need it.

www.posernation.com  is my website if you would like to see it. I'm not the best coder in the world so it is pretty generic. All the php is part of osCommerce package.

Blogspot.com is a super-easy and free way to maintain an organized arrangement.
No need to code in "real" HTML, but you can use tags like href and img if you want.

Blogspot doesn't have free hosting for pics and ZIPs, but since you're using
ShareCG anyway, that doesn't matter.

I have a site at Yola. The site is free and the space is free and they have page layout templates I can choose from. It's as easy as typing. :o)

I could very easily recommend WordPress blogging - it's been a quick and easy solution that most ISPs support, and there's tons of material out there and templates to suit your taste.

I've set up three in no time at all... here's mine:

one thought - some places will charge you for 'excessive traffic', so if your 'bandwidth is exceeded' you may either get temporarily made 'un-downloadable'  or worse, they may want to charge.
Just make sure of that before you sign up to one.

I'd have a look at GoDaddy or BlueHost... very inexpensive ($4 a month!) and good uptime. I've been uniformly happy with them.
