Hi.  I've dabbled with Vue 6 Infinite and am looking to upgrade to Vue 8 infinite and am wondering what these maintenance packages are and if people feel that they are worth the extra money?

Thanks,

David

Hello!

That very much depends on your usual upgrade habits. If you are always updating to the latest version including the .5 versions, the maintenance package will save you money very quickly. The actual maintenance aspect of the package is not that interesting for home/hobby users beyond the access to the expedited engineering fixes.
I have the basic maintenance for Vue 8 Infinite now for two years and I am very happy with it. The second year was a reduced price and overall I have spend less money than I would have if I would have upgraded separately to each version.

If you usually only upgrade every other version of Vue you will waste money with the maintenance.
Does that help?

Hi.  That helps a bit.  If I don't go with the maintenance plan does that mean if there are patches to the current version I won't get those?  Also what's the difference between the standard and premium maintenance versions.

Sincerely,

David

Hello!

Without maintenance you will still get patches for the current version, but you won't get the interim patches that are made to address some problems immediately (EEF for expedited engineering fixes). Basically you pay to get these fixes faster, but they are not fully tested. For 7, 7.5 and 8 most of the EEFs behaved nicely for me and solved some issues. I remember that I had to uninstall one of them because it caused more issues that it solved. Overall it was worth it to me.

Premium maintenance means that you'll pay a premium for additional high priority access to help. This is basically only for professionals and studios who rely on the software for their business.

Patches are always free to users.  The maintenance plan users get them a bit quicker, but that also means they test them out before if it posted for all.

Premium maintenance is designed more for studios where if they do run into a bug, they get  a developer to look into a bug fix, plus all the features of the standard maintenance.
