Subject: Bagginsbill's listing of suggested Firefly render settings

ThunderStone ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2010 at 6:20 AM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 7:48 AM

Ok, now I've officially gone dafty... I remember seeing a posting that bagginsbill had done that contain a jewel, a nugget of render settings for Firefly using D3D in PP2010 and now I can't find  that post! I had it bookmarked or so I thought. So if you guys could please just give me a link or know the topic heading, let me know so I can make my way back there?

Thanks

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Nope, bb. that ain't it... You had typed out the entire list starting from draft to excellent renderor the other way around... Or so I thought. I mean, I thought I saw it... on either Friday or Saturday past...

Now I know I have really gone off the deep end with this...

I know I wrote something like that in the VSS thread, but that was way before Poser 8. In your OP you said I was using D3D in PP2010.

And you posted it sometime last week... Not in VSS thread... nothing to do with skin shader tho. has to do with rendering set up...Oh heck! Forget it... You've done enough good things with your information, it's about time, I start keeping track of the information in my own way.  I should have copied it into a little note book I keep for important tips and tidbits... This one got away.

No it's not that one either.... Sorry but I am going daffy here or was. I had stop looking for it now. Maybe when I'm not looking it will pop up up again and at that time, I'll do one of the two things;  copy and paste it to a text page in MS Words or print it out.

Is it this one? A Dummies Guide to Indirect Lighting in Poser 8.

I have a PDF copy of that thread, but I haven't been all the way through it yet. BB was heavily involved in it, but I don't know if he posted recommended D3D settings.. I don't have time to go through it now at work.

Well I spent the last 3 hours, reading the Dummies Guide to IDL thread, starting from page 1. Picked up some nice tips but still no guide to render settings, that I thought I had seen. Oh well, maybe I was dreaming when I thought I had seen them...  Thanks BB for all the advice and tips. You're a true gem. Did a render, no lights like you had did before (IDL wall). This time I had a character (SydVorg) set up as metallic as I can.  What do you think?

The render looks good. The lighting effect is perfect.

The only nit to pick is this: The brick-like pattern of the wall is not showing up in the reflection from the back wall. Did you use displacement? Reflections of displacement don't work right in poser. If so, try using some bump of the same pattern. Keep the displacement for direct viewing, but add some bump so it gets picked up in the reflection.

Here is the screen cap of the backwall mat that is reflective. Hmmm, BB, I have "soften" the reflection of the back wall  If you mean the "gray" wall reflected in "front" of the borg, that's not a mirror, It's just plain... Next post is coming up...
