Subject: Poser content acquisition syndrome

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2010 at 1:03 AM · edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 8:57 AM

So why am I upset that Kids 4 don't work properly in Poser? I have so much stuff already, and a lot of it will hardly be used. I have never rendered a kid, a teen or a baby, except as an experiment, not even saving the image. But...If they had worked, there would be so much cute stuff I could buy for them...

Every item of Poser content, or Poser utility, represents potential. It grows my imaginary world and I somehow feel empowered by it.

Get real now. These are just pixel dolls and I have plenty.

Poser 11 Pro, Windows 10

Auxiliary Apps: Blender 2.79, Vue Complete 2016, Genetica 4 Pro, Gliftex 11 Pro, CorelDraw Suite X6, Comic Life 2, Project Dogwaffle Howler 8, Stitch Witch

Ya no doubt  :m_laugh:  I sit and go through my runtimes  and think gad I have soo much stuff I had forgotten I even had. At times even after looking at the thumbs I cant remember what an item was for.

New kids? I think I have the last ones, have to go look now.

Life is hard, but what a ride.

Ok i have to ask ..

why do the kids4 not work properly in Poser? i havent as yet installed them - so i'm curious.

NanetteTredoux ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2010 at 1:14 AM

Other threads here have discussed the problems with the Kids4 in Poser extensively. Basically the proportions are off to begin with and they don't scale right in Poser. The toddler doesn't work at all. So that is a line of content I won't be pursuing.

Oops!  I haven't even tried them yet, but you say the toddler doesn't work at all?  [sigh]  I wish I didn't have such a knee-jerk reaction to new products . . .

Don't you just have a finger on the pulse Nanette!! I think exactly the same thing, and when I see things go on special, I know I just have to have it, because eventually I'll want it because I might make a scene where I need it and then... blah-blah-blah...

Sheesh! Or better yet, when I've spent close to a hundred, then I think, "better buy that one more dolly so I get the Render Rewards so I can..." what? spend some more?

I'm pathetic. :crying:

I used to be exactly like that years back. Had to have the latest, greatest ;o). Nowdays I'm much more picky about what I'll spend my money on, a lot of it being a matter of cash flow ;o). But I think I've grown to a point where I'd rather make it or morph it anymore than buy it. Now I just blow all my money on software...lol.

I am guilty of the acquisition "syndrome" myself.  Have slowed down a lot though.  Realised that I was collecting stuff faster than I was using it.

Hmmmm, the PCA Syndrome.  Kinda of catchy.  I think we have a new acronym to coin.

Actually  in most cases people in the poser community are prone to  Compulsive Digital Hoarding:
"Digital hoarding involves collecting files on one's computer beyond the point of usefulness. Often, files can be acquired through the Internet at no monetary cost, leading to extraordinarily large collections. Examples are music collections, often beyond what one enjoys or can listen to and television shows, movies and computer games. Hoarders, or "digital pack rats",often resort to buying optical media or new hard drives to store their collections, rather than deleting what they may never use.
Digital hoarders find it just as difficult to press delete as traditional hoarders find throwing items in the trash can. They have the same feeling of clutter and chaos, and f
eel that they might find the item useful "someday," and similarly spend large amounts of time acquiring and organizing their collections.* However, unlike physical clutter, automated systems exist to organize digital clutter."*

When I was little I collected baseball cards, then coins. When I was older it was LP's and CD's. Now that I am really old my goal is collect more clothes for my latest squeeze (her name happens to be Vicki) then I ever bought for my ex-wife! :thumbupboth:

Got to spoil those you love! :woot:

Yeah Bopper, why can't that be a problem?  "I have all this money and I just can't get rid of it!"

I have just finished reinstalling all the stuff I have DL over the years. Some of it has been lost forever, but looking over what I do have I sometimes I feel I have so much stuff that it stifles my creative mind

Logic23 ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 12:38 PM

This illness will go along perfectly with my newly acquired obsession with new computer equipment. 🆒 It may even compliment my tendencies toward conspiracy theories :thumbupboth: 😉 (LaurieA may be able to attest to that last bit)

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 6:16 PM

The sad realization, once all the content is reinstalled, you need to go back and change every single material zone in the material room because they were all incorrectly created in the first place.

Winterclaw ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2010 at 8:29 PM

hborre, yeah I've had that little problem with 2 characters I've bought so far... and my standards are pretty low (just look at my gallery).
