Subject: Bagginsbill Matmatic Question

parkdalegardener ( ) posted Wed, 28 April 2010 at 4:07 PM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 7:32 AM

I am using P8 SR2.1 on Win7 without problem. I have downloaded and enjoy using VSS to set up my materials across multiple material zones so after seeing multiple threads on using Poser7MatmaticBeta1 to generate materials I figured I would give it a try. It installed fine in my main runtime python folder and when run appeared to compile the included demo scripts. Upon entering my materials tab I can only see the 4 subfolders in MatmaticDemos. None of them are populated with anything. Refreshing the library did not help. Upon looking into these folders using Explorer I find that the scripts were compiled into .mt5 files. There is a time stamp for the compiling of them placed there by Matmatic. Rebooting my computer didn't help. Restarting Poser didn't help. Refreshing the library didn't help. Could you? Please. This seems to me to be a great python but only if I can get it running.
Thanks

Excellent post - you gave me all the info I need and I don't have a single follow up question. Clearly matmatic ran fine and produced mt5 and timestamp files.

So - the sad news is I don't have a clue what's going on!!

Refreshing the matmatic folders should have made the mateirals appear in the library, albeit with a shrugging guy icon. (Matmatic doesn't make thumbnails)

Restarting Poser should have made them appear.

Rebooting should have made them appear.

I've had no problems with matmatic in P8 (any SR) or with PPro2010. I'm mystified.

I don't know what to suggest.

This is completely off the wall and random, but how about you use explorer to rename the MatmaticDemos folder, then start Poser. Does it show up with the new name?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I'm suspicious of UAC here. I'm wondering if the folder is actually somewhere else.

Also, hovering over one of those folders should tell you the true path to that folder as far as Poser sees it. Does the full path match the paths matmatic said it was working on?

Did that BB and the new folder name doesn't show. It's still MatmaticDemos. It shouldn't be a UAC problem but thanks to your suggestion I have something to check on. Could it be a library problem and not a Matmatic issue?
Thanks

If the old name is still there, then there I'm fairly confident it has something to do with UAC, not the library or matmatic.

You may have something here. Poser reports that it sees the folders in my docs public user (Damn UAC) folder but the actual materials were generated in the main runtime not the public user runtime. I have just moved the directory from my main Poser8 runtime to the public user runtime and the guy is shrugging his shoulders off. Thanks for the help BB. Hope I get as much use from this as I am from VSS.

OK. So you'll have to edit the config.txt file in the matmatic folder and tell it the correct the locations where it scans for matmatic scripts.

Or you could leave those alone and make a userconfig.txt and put new scan commands to where you want it to look.

Personally, I have a "bagginsbill" external runtime that is exactly where I put it. I know where it is. (It's in a sub-folder of my desktop, where it is easy to get to at all times.)

I have this external runtime for all my bagginsbill stuff. I put matmatic scripts in there, not my main runtime. My main runtime is strictly for Poser's included content. Everything I add or buy or download goes elsewhere.

This makes it easier to back up stuff. I have no need to back up my main runtime since it is an eact copy of the original distribution files from SM. So I only back up stuff I write.

The Vista/W7 UAC is a common problem where Poser is concerned.  While your app resides withing the Program Files folder, any new content generated will be diverted to a virtual location, in this case under the Public User's folder.  I think this is by design to drive individuals crazy.

Thanks BB. I've edited the userconfig.txt and all is well. I never put anything in the main runtime normally but I was under the impression that most pythons have to be in the main runtime in order to work. The problem seems to have poped up because I have more than one account on the machine with Poser access so I'll be keeping an eye on this in the future.
Thanks again...

I went from Poser 4 on WIN95 to Poser 8 on WIN7 when I got a new machine just after X-Mas so the UAC thing is new to me but to tell you the truth it really doesn't bother me. I see it's purpose. I'm still getting it together using Poser 8 but am very happy with the whole thing. Now if I could only grow decent hair in the hair room.
