Sounds like you just need to manually attach the textures to your object; just load the OBJ, select it, and switch to Carrara's Texture Room by clicking the paintbrush icon in the upper left portion of your screen. Once you're in the texture room, just load the textures into the shader tree; for example: in the color channel, select "texture map" and click the load icon to navigate to the map you made in CS5. Rinse and repeat for any other maps you may have. (Bump, spec, etc.)

Above advice is probably the way to go. It's easier to setup the shaders in Carrara and then save the model as a .car file or re-export to .obj.
Usually its the .mtl file that goes with the .obj that has all the base material settings and pointers to the texture images. The .mtl is just text, so if you want to you can edit it in Notepad or TextEdit... It could be that your .mtl file is missing if you don't have any material zones or textures on anything.
I also consider it a good habit when working with .obj models to put the .obj, .mtl, and texture images together in a folder just for that model. That way everything that's associated with each other stays together.

Sorry for the noob question. I'm trying to import a textured object from PS CS5 Extended 3D into Carrara 7. The problem is the textures don't come along. Can anyone help?
