Subject: Global Gamma type look for VC 8.4 ?

ddaydreams ( ) posted Tue, 18 May 2010 at 3:40 PM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 2:27 AM

Hi
Since Vue Complete 8.4 does not have Global Gamma control like 8.5.
And I like the less contrast and better dynamic range of 8.5 with Global Gamma control applied.

What can I do to improve my 8.4 renders to look more like 8.5 with that feature applied?

So far it seems to help 8.4 to edit the sun settings to turn down shadows, but I'm wondering what else can I do to improve look.

What do some of you people do?

I know I can do postwork in Photoshop such as shadow/highlight, but I would like to get it closer to that look before postwork.

You'll need to connect a gamma correction node before each output for each colour function (bitmap or procedural) input in the function editor.

Sounds complex to me to figure out how to apply those.

Is there a downloadable scene file somewhere that uses those nodes so I can dig in and see how to do that right?

Here's a screenshot of the function editor. Add a color correction node between the colour output and the color production function ( either procedural or texture). The gamma value should be 0.455
