Is there something similar to After Effect and the like for postwork ?

Like adding explosions, lightning, and basically anything else I may want to ?

...BUT, for stills, not animations ?

I did this pic's SFX, using Photoshop brushes, each on it's own layer, white colour, applying a Layer Style, either Outer glow with a noise gradient, or gradient overlay again with a noise gradient

A great number of  things can be done with Paint Shop Pro as well which is considerably less expensive than PS. Dogwaffle also has some great post effects.

The Gimp will do a lot and it's free.

Painter also has some great effects.

Oh and both PSP and the Gimp can use the free Photoshop brushes that abound on the web.

alas, Photoshop brushed after Photoshop7, cannot be used by those apps, unless you do a conversion to png, then import and save as an app specific brush :/
i.e. if it's a CS brush, forget it unless you want to do a lot of work, meh.

You mean there's a modern version of Photoshop?  Egads! lol......Didn't think about that. I'm still with 7.   Well then it's simply a matter of making your own....which wouldn't make a bad tutorial for Vue users.

CS 5 just came out :) that's Photoshop 12, in effect, I think?
