Subject: Useing Light Sets In Poser

**Hello all; me again.
I was wondering if you guys could hlep me with a lighting question this time.
I need to know if it is possible to add a light set to a poser scene without deleting the lights I have already placed in my scene?
My problem is this; 
I have my scene set up the way I want it, but would like to add some lighting effects as well.
When I click on the lighs I want to use it auto deleates the lights I have already placed in my scene. 
So my question is....   Is there a way to add the lights from the set I want and still keep the lights that are already there.

In Poser 7 and newer versions, you have the choice of replacing or adding.

Instead of double-clicking on the light set (which feels like the natural thing to do!)
click only once on the light set. 

Hit the "one check mark" icon to replace the old with the new. 

Hit the "two check marks" icon to add the new without deleting the old.

Ockham has described how to add light set without deleting old, however you will need to reestablish balance afterwards.  Both light sets predate PoserPro, P8 and PoserPro 2010 and will be rather troublesome if you are using gamma correction, and IDL.  Also, lights sets are memory intensive; delete unnecessary lights and keep what is absolutely essential to your scene.

Thanks guys   Im useing Poser 6 right now   I have 7 but have not installed untill new computer arives   then will also have P8 as well

Replies above address merging lights so they do not delete the present lights that are already there. P7 and above allows for merging sets, and creates unique names. When I worked with Poser4pro I use to manually merge the two lights set via Notepad. giving unique name to the lights from one set to the other. This also must be done for the associated Camera Shadow lights and their parenting as well. I have done as many as 50 combined lights with this process, tedious, but it can be done! I am not sure what release this change came about, but that may be what you need to do with P6?

Steeleyes101 stated the crucial point. In P6, if you load a light with the same name as a light that already exists in the scene, the original light will just be overwritten by the new one with the same name.

As Steeleyes101 suggested, you can edit lt2 files to give each light and shadow cam a unique name, so different sets do not overwrite each other when loaded.

If the light sets use standard Poser names for the lights (most do) you can speed up the editing process by using the Search & Replace function of your text editor. First of all the lights need to be in uncompressed lt2 format, so you can edit them.

Open one of the lt2 files in a text editor. Immediately save it with a new name, so that if anything goes wrong you still have the original. Do a of Search & Replace, using the following search and replace strings, you need to replace all instances of the strings in the file.

LIGHT replace with LIGHT-A

spotLight replace with spotLight-A

SHADOW_CAM_LITE replace with SHADOW_CAM_LITE-A

Do the same with the next lt2 file, except use "-B" in place of "-A".

Now the light sets will not overwrite each other when loaded, but loading a new set will still turn all the lights in the old set off. This is a shortcoming of the way lt2 files work. You will have to turn them on by hand individually, or find a python script that can turn them on for you.

You can do the following, so that your light sets load without turning the other lights in your scene off. Download and install "MinFig" from my free stuff. Start a new Poser scene, delete all the lights. Load "MinFig", load "light set A", parent all the lights in "light set A" to MinFig, save MinFig back to a figure palette as "light set A". Do the same for "light set B" and any other sets. Now when you load the figure versions of these light sets, they will not turn the other lights in your scene off. This also has the advantage that moving or rotating MinFig will move of rotate all the lights in a set at once.

not really sure but would it be possible to create a pz3 with only the lights you want to add renamed and then import it into the scene? if i am not mistaken they would be added to the existing light setup

Much easier to do it as a Library light file .lt2,  then add to the .pz3 later!
Less code to deal with, and less chance to get lost!
