Subject: Looking for clothes & hair for P5's Will and Penny figures

musikman ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2010 at 9:14 AM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 5:32 PM

Hi

I’m using PoserPro2010, and I’m trying to find some additional hair and clothing for P5’s Will & Penny figures, which I’ll be using in a kid’s birthday party animation.  They don’t come with much clothing, and neither one come with hair, at least not conforming hair or clothing, which is what I’m after. Since there will be more boy figures than girl figures in my animation, I’m mostly in need of additional content for Will.

I’ve downloaded the additional P5 content package, but it’s very sparse on clothing, one basic set for each figure, Will has a baseball cap and cowboy hat, a pair of camouflage pants and sweatshirt.  I need some basic kids clothing, like jeans, Tshirts, etc….

I managed to fit Penny with P7 Kate’s hair, but haven’t been able to fit Will with any conforming hair from any of the other figures. When I attempt to use conforming hair for Will from any other figures, it kinda “floats” above his head, but also moves if I move Will’s head, so it seems conformed, but not in the right place, if that makes sense.  I can’t grab it and bring it down onto Will’s head as I was able to do with fitting Penny with Kate’s hair.

I haven't found any free stuff here so far in my searches.  Any help in finding out what other figure’s clothing and hair might fit these two kids would be appreciated. Thanks!

Grabbing hair doesn't work (on Poser figures), but you can always adjust the yTran dial
to bring it down onto the head.

I can't offer any sources for Will and Penny clothing, though.... I'd also like to see more of it.

Another option for conforming hair is to export it as an object, reimport it and save it as a prop that can be parented to the figure's head. Short conforming hair doesn't really need to be since it doesn't have to move with the body the same way long hair does.

If you want to use kids in a project, you need to download the free ones at DAZ because they're the only ones that have close to any level of support--with the boys having the least amount of clothing available to them. Even though I've been indexing a lot of the content I've collected over the years, I found very little for these characters other than what came with Poser.

Your only other option is getting Wardrobe Wizard and using it to convert clothing for use on the children.

I don't know why I didn't notice it before, but Will and Penny were probably named after the Lost in Space characters.

My visual indexes of Poser content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon

Also, you will need to unconform the hair piece to make any translation adjustments, then parent afterwards.  Penny & Will are pretty much the forgotten orphans, not much support.  I don't know if you have considered the Millennium kids over @ DAZ.  The base figures are free and you may able to find more available content for them.

Hi

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will try the yTran dial.  I'm using Ben & Kate, which seem to be fine for clothes, hair, etc....The millenium kids seemed like a good bet, but they are Poser 4 figures from 2002, and although the specs say they come with poses, etc…none were to be found after the install , still working on that one. I have also downloaded and installed The Kids 4, which I see have available clothing, props, etc...for purchase at Daz website. Haven't looked for any Kids 4 free stuff here yet.

The biggest reason I'd like to use Will more is that Will works with the face room, and if I can get a few different sets of clothing/hair for Will, I can change his face a few times, and I'll have made a few new characters from using Will as a base. None of the Daz figures work with the face room.

I was able to find a few more clothes for Will, a pair of jeans that conformed nicely in the P5 Boy folder, however no regular Tshirts.  What I tried to do unsuccessfully is I loaded a Polo Shirt from the P5 Male folder (which is obviously for adult sized P5 figures), then I scaled it down to Will's size, but it wouldn't conform correctly. (see attached, pic 1 has adult shirt resized, pic 2 is when I then tried to conform it).

Hborre, I thought of "unconforming" but couldn't figure out how to do that.

Adult P5 Polo Shirt after trying to conform it to Will

Gagonrich, regarding what you mentioned.... "Another option for conforming hair is to export it as an object, reimport it and save it as a prop that can be parented to the figure's head.".....

Could you please tell me what I need to do when I go to File/Export?   Do I select "image"?  I'm just not sure how to export as an object, and how to "reimport" as a prop.  Or if you could point me to the manual's instructions I'll have a look there myself.  Many thanks!

Poser Pro 2010 comes with Wardrobe Wizard with which you can convert clothing from a multitude of figures to Will or any other supported figure. Also you're better off going with Prop hair than conforming. It only requires adjustements of the X,Y,Z Scale & Trans dials.

Thanks LostinSpaceman,  I'm a fairly new poser user, so I've yet to delve into the wardrobe wizard, so I really don't even know whether the Will figure is supported or not.  At this point in time I'm not very familiar with how the WW works, the scripts, etc...so I have some reading to do. If I can get that going it will open up a much bigger selection of clothing I can use.

I was able to use the Trans dials to place some hair on Will, so at least I'm making progress on the hair. And I did notice that the hair that I've tried using that was prop hair was a bit easier to use. I'm sure I will be using the dials to scale, especially once I add a baseball cap on top of the hair, otherwise the hair will poke through the hat.

All the figures that actually have come with Poser's 1-8 are all supported for free with Wardrobe Wizard. You'll have to buy the addons for DAZ figure support and other 3rd party figures. Hair poke through and hats has been a longtime battle with Poser. You'll need to learn to use Magnets or the morph Brush to mush hair down under a hat.

I see what you mean. I can scale the entire hair piece down a bit which helps keep it under the hat, but I can only go so far before it begins to be hidden by Will's head, so I still also need to scale the hat a bit larger to compensate.

As for the Wardrobe Wizard, it doesn't appear to be a cut & dry procedure. Was reading about the WW in the manual and there seems to be quite a few options, which is a good thing, just a bit confusing as I've not had the chance to familiarized myself with all the tools, so I'll have to experiment to see which options will help me conform the adult clothes to the Will figure. Thanks again, I do appreciate the help!

After reading up on the Wardrobe Wizard, I was able to conform some adult clothing to fit the Will figure, some of it conformed quite well.

I'm going to try using shirts that stop at the waist though, because it's probably going to take some doing to fix the tearing (see pic) that I get with a shirt that is designed longer than the waist. That's an adult Tshirt that I converted to fit the Will figure. Fits well actually, until I added the jeans, lol !

Not sure how to fix something like this, whether it has to do with collision, or what. At least I've got the WW working now, so that is giving me a bunch more clothing options. Thanks again to everyone here for all the help and advice. :-)

The T-Shirt looks to be an exact fit, perhaps increasing it's scale might alleviate the problem.  Otherwise, you might need magnets or the morph tool to make final correct adjustments.

musikman ( ) posted Sun, 18 July 2010 at 9:41 AM

I did try increasing the scale, but the jeans are a bit baggy, so I had to increase the size of the shirt so much to cover the jeans that it ended up just looking way too big. If I decreased the size to make it look like it was tucked in, I lost too much shirt and began to see tears & skin in some spots.

I'm sure there are ways to correct it.  I did try playing around with the dials, just a matter of getting the right combination of scaling.  Tbh, I'm not familiar with the magnets and how they work yet, but will look into that in the manual.  Thanks hborre!

Quick question:.....TEXTURES FOR BASEBALL CAPS & PROPS

There are only two baseball caps I found for P5 Will, one green and one blue.

I wanted to take the green one and change the texture(color) of the cap, so I opened the original texture jpg file in gimp, then changed the color of all the pieces of the cap, and saved the file as a jpg, using a slightly different name back into the Textures folder where the original one was. (now giving me two different jpgs in that folder to choose from)

When I opened Poser, selected the cap and went to the material room advanced tab, I selected the texture jpg file in the  image node and swapped it for my new saved jpg. The new file loaded and was visible in the thumbnail, but in the scene, the actual cap didn't change to the new colors, it just stayed the original colors.

I have been able to do this without any problems with clothing colors, but the baseball cap is a prop and I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing that I need to do to change a prop's colors.

(Eventually I'd like to also add a logo on the cap, but just changing the basic color isn't even working yet.)

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?  Thank you!

MM
