Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 02 11:49 pm)
Yes it's technically possible, but I doubt DAZ will do that - the reason they give their base figures away for free is because they are the engine that drives sales of content, and a lot of that is textures. Aside from that the V4 uvmap isn't really all that wonderful anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if they offer some sort of texture converter, maybe a new (non-free) plugin for Universal Texture Converter, but the output from such things takes a fairly serious quality hit.
That doesn't mean a third party couldn't give you a remapped version, although that's a very big project in itself.
Ah, okay. I just thought it'd give the customers a little extra value if they could at least reuse some of their v4 texture maps. It might make it easier and more convenient for people to switch over at least.

This is what geniuses like David is for (DPH)... and his remaps are very reasonably priced and give you incredible flexibility.

Personally, I think we should stop with the Victorias, Mikes, etc. until the whole damned thing is re-thought.
UV should be a thing of the past in the near future. Pixel-mapping, I think it's called, will be the next thing.
Future Figures should have real physics...not groups and jcms. Objects should have assignable density...liquid, gas, solid (and variations thereof) to do real-time collision.
Our computers are powerful and want to do more...Poser just doesn't ask it to do so.

I hate to be pessimistic (actually I love to be pessimistic) but I wouldn't really expect that to catch on and trickle down to Poserland for 10-15 years.
All the vickies I have came with a remap to the previous version. So I fully expect V5 to come out with an alternative supporting V4 textures. However, I am not sure I would be interested in her, since these poly-bloated figures make it difficult to do group scenes. Perhaps if she came with, for instance, about 40% of the polys of the V4....but I don't think that is likely.

Assuming the next iteration of Victoria and Mike are more or less standard figures with UV mapping, I hope they damn well do change the mapping from V4's horrible, seam laden mess.
And hopefully make a female figure which doesn't come out of the box looking like David Walliams with tits. Proper puts me off my cornflakes, that does.

In chat we were talking about when V5 comes out and I asked if it was possible for daz to make the UVmaps so it is possible to reuse all the texture maps from v4. I mean if the UV map of V4's face takes up X amount of area for the mouth, Y for the nose, Z for the eyes, etc. Wouldn't it be possible when mapping V5 to keep her map for those same areas in the same part of the UVmap that v4 has?
